I read your post out loud here at work, everyone is laughing their ass off.....

We're not used to these temperatures. Obviously our utility companies aren't either. It' not funny when your pipes freeze, your gas is shut off (due to high demand), your power is shut off due to high demand and you are freezing your ass off. Natural gas has been off for three days. Doesn't bother me as I heat with wood. But, had family sleeping on the floor for the last 2 days though. This is not typical here at all and made me rethink my dependence on all of my utility systems. Luckily I got a wood stove a generator and I got my water heater hooked up to a propane bottle for now. :( So at least a hot shower will make me a bit happier. :D

How does the propane burn in a natural gas heater without changing the jets and the air supply? Have you taken a close look at the flame?

My hot water heater comes with orifices for both natural gas and propane. So I switched them out and hooked up the bottle..voila hot water.

It did it again. Luckily I have a very dedicated Westar ( power company ) employee living across the street from me. He has kept us powered up through both storms. He just pulled out as I took these pics. :D

Holy crap 12 hp ! Time to build a Methods Flamethrower  It is about 10 f here but last night the frickin windchill was about -20 Hey the suns coming out yay

I dunno, at least snow insulates. This one was the 100 year cold for us. Unbelievable damage to anything with a water pipe. Once the Electric company screwed us, city water systems stopped flowing and pipes of unbelievable size blew apart. Stuff we take for granted, like water meters in buried boxes froze. Now that it's thawed, it's beyond belief how much damage has been done by a few days below zero when everything is built for lows in the + 20's.

The hardware stores are mob scenes in the plumbing dept. The workers there look like thier hair is on fire.

Still fixing pipes here too and we still don't have water at the winery. Today is the last cold day though. We'll be riding our e bikes next week :D :D :D :D

Guess I'm lucky here, as it's not been too far below freezing for too long. Leaving my faucets dripping was enough to keep them from freezing overnite, but the water was still slushy in them as it didnt' flow very fast at first when turned on at various times (or when flushing). Have to leave it running a thin stream next time, I guess. (pipes are all overhead in the attics in these houses, rather than underneath the floors, which works fine when it's not freezing, and when you don't actually need *cold* water in summer, or even anything below 90F).

Been in the low 40s F last couple of nights, and low 60s F day, with fuzzy clouds keeping heat in at night. Today is very clear though, and so I expect it'll probably be very cold tonight again.

Still sick, though, so no riding in any of this weather except when I have to, like yesterday for groceries, and previous days for work. Have to bundle up in at least 4 sweaters and sweatpants plus other stuff and the fullface MC helmet with gloves and liners just to ride at 10-15MPH; it's too cold to do 20. :(

Bone chilling 40's (F) eh? LOL... It's 26F as I head to work in NYC.

-16f here this AM Brrr!! 50 by Sunday yeah

Ok the official low was minus 17 f. then within 10 days hit 78 f. So 95 degree swing. Yesterday was 70 f. 30 f. this morning - about 35 now ugghh :? Cold beer one day and hot schnapps the next

Holy crap. It would be strange to wake up and say "hey I wonder why it's so dark this morning"

Only twice that I can remember did that ever happen, when I lived in rural Texas (a short ways north of where Auraslip lives) as a kid. It felt really stuffy in the house, and actually very warm, almost overly so (despite having nearly no heating that year (not much money for propane), no electricity, etc.).

I guess the wind must've changed directions a few times during the night, building up snow in banks all around the house except on the east end, where it faced the propane tank and a tall shed and some tall trees, so taht end was all that wasn't buried past the eaves. :( It was also the only place fresh air could get into the house outside of the kitchen stove vent (where the old windows didnt' fit so well), so it was probably a really good thing that we only had one heater running on low. Ended up having to crawl out those windows so we could dig out the front door, which took all day.

It was one of the most...interesting...memories I have, of a beautifully strange day.

One morning like that, and you move to Phoenix. 8)
