My 48 Volt Evelo Ebike came with a Nuvinci Drive train. Shifts well but I need higher gears. I find myself ridding in the highest gear most the time. It's properly installed and shifts easily but higher gears would be appreciated. Any suggestions?

Looks like the standard 18T on the N360. You can install a smaller sprocket; 17, 16, 15, 14 are available.

Interesting drive. Been wondering if a worm drive would take off, looks like it has.

Where can I purchase a smaller sprocket? I googled and googled Nuvinci but can't find a source for parts. Thanks.

The N360 uses standard shimano splined cogs. Surly makes nice ones, but any singlespeed cassette cog would do the trick. Just don't use cogs made for a multispeed cassette because they are made to shift the chain which you don't really want.

Appreciate your advice, thanks. I just emailed Evelo, let's see what they say. As I said my bike is running well--logged in almost 2000 miles but find myself almost always in the highest "gear" setting.

Evelo responded to my question. Turns out the bike was shipped with a 18T sprocket instead of a 17T. Evelo is shipping me a 17T, they said I can go as low as 16 but the stock is 17T.

If they haven't sent it yet you should ask for the 16T instead of the 17T as the difference will be very small (approx. 5% vs 10% lower gearing)

The stock build is 17T so that's what Evelo is mailing out. I just purchased a 16T from Amazon, we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think you should mount the 16T right away and see if the changing of the gearing is sufficient. If not and you would like an even taller gearing you could find out if the front sprocket is also a standard size and order a (much) larger one (>+3T). As long as your lowest gear is "short" enough to get up the steepest hill you'll need to climb with a decent cadance you'll be fine.

Good luck and please report back your result.

16T cog solved the problem!!! Rides like a different bike, I start off on a low gear and shift to higher gears for a smooth powerful ride. Highest gear provides 19-20 MPH at a comfortable cadence. My local bike shop swapped the gear this morning and replaced the worn out chain in under 30 minutes!!! It made my day!! Thanks for all the advice!!!!
