In Australia we got that as a cartoon called "Star Blazers". That is so funny you put that up as out of nowhere the theme song came into my head the other day and I was trying to remember where it came from. It used to show on our national broadcaster before or after "G-Force" which was also awesome.....

I would like to see this movie. :) I recall the original airing of Uchuu Senkai Yamato's U.S. version, Star Blazers, back when I was a kid, and used to draw lots of battle shots of various stuff from that show. I built a few models of various ships, too, and still have a little Yamato somewhere, and a Black Tiger or two. The old ones were balsa, from scratch, but the ones I still have were little kits.

It took another 15 years for me to discover the source of the show, and "Japanimation" or what is now just commonly known as Anime, and finding lots of stuff I liked to watch. Some of it is very good (and like most things, most of it is not ). After I discovered anime I also found some of the merchandising, and ended up after some trades with a technical book on the Yamato itself, too, in Japanese, but I have no idea where it's at right now.

I hope this movie is as good as the preview looks.

STAR BLAZERS AND THE EDF LIVE!!! WOOOO HOOOO~!!!! Ok, I didnt go cultic over the Rocky Horror thing, or the Harry Potter crap, but THIS! Yeah, Im going cult! SHIT! I gotta learn Japanese!

I've never seen or heard of SB before, but admittedly the movie version has me hooked, I mean really - who can resist after that Steve Tyler song... :)

Digging around, I found this nifty model online. Fun demo-movie and clickable image close-ups at the bottom of the page.

Enjoy, KF

That's way cooler than the models I've had. This is the only pic I have of any of them, taken with my first (crappy) digicam several years back (the model is around 4 or 5 inches long):

and a sketch from (I think) late grade school or early high school:

where you can see my craptacular art style of the time. There are lots of others I never even scanned in (some of which still exist, in a file cabinet someplace).

AW - that is just too cool! 8) :)

I was already 18 when it first came out, but I was hooked from the first episode! In College we played Dungeons & Dragons endlessly, then when other RPG systems came out, we played with those. Eventually after RIFTS came out we went full space and the Earth Defense Force was our main game for at least two years! LOL Yup, I be a GEEK biker! Oh! So are ya'll!

My crew used alot of the Paladium system , but we had some campaigns with Whitewolf, both The Apocolypse (werewolves) and The Masquerade (Vampires). In all of them we ended up making a ton of our own shit and the game took on a life of its own! Did that with everything we played with, we played Axis and Alies, more stuff, more abilities, we had airlifts, long range radar, even tactical nukes or full fledge monsters and anti missile missiles, Some how I ended up on a site where everyone takes everything to the highest level. Go figure.
