Easy, Americans just need to regulate their publicly traded companies in the USA to train/educate American workers that lost their jobs directly from the across borders move, and replace those lost jobs they send across borders with new jobs of similar value at least in wages. It's an insurance fee that all companies can pay into either privately or with a government trust.Philistine said:Philistine wrote:Yes, let's go back to total protectionism, that has worked well for everybody, particularly the darker coloured people of the world.
Devries, how exactly is it that you are going to stop manufacturing in the US from moving to Mexico, China and India, without engaging protectionism?deVries said:I don't think anyone is suggesting this idea including me.
This will prevent entire American communities from being destroyed & devastated for decades, because the local "main industry(s)" moved away.
Americans educate more foreign students that go back to their countries to then build their futures, probably, more than all other nations combined. We are the most generous nation in that regard including immigration & foreign aid too.
deVries said:With Free Trade The Rule of Wall Street's Evil Empire began gutting America by sending our manufacturing to Mexico, China, India, all overseas just to enrich themselves committing class warfare on a national scale.
At least we're getting it from the same place. :lol:Philistine said:Call me crazy, but that is where I got it from.
No, you can't take a punt, I lived in Mexico to go to school there for a short time long before NAFTA was passed. I've traveled extensively in Mexico & have traveled & done business in Guatemala. I've seen the huge disparities between the super wealthy & the dirt poor in these nations, and I'm damn sure not going to roll over to the wolves of the power elites that will do the same here to most Americans if given a chance. It is already happening here big time!Philistine said:Devries can I take a punt that you have never visited a developing country? Have you ever spent time (I mean in a real home, with real people) in a developing country?
The "fat cats" on Wall Street run their pawns called "government". We are a Fascist nation for the corporate elites & socialist poor that are bitched at for being socialist. Like we have any say or choice. Americans need to awaken & be able to vote on the weekend instead of Tuesday on a work day. :wink:Philistine said:Do you have any idea about US foreign policy in relation to the Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS), and the US using the 301 trade process to stop Indians and Africans from "breaching" US pharmecutical patents (to save the lives of their own people)? This isn't the "fat cats" on Wall Street - this is your Government.
National & International pressure has already changed many American Pharmaceutical Companies in this regard. After all, Americans pay much higher prices for their legal drugs & sell them cheaper overseas. Part of this protectionism is because drugs are very expensive to prove their effectiveness & pass double blind scientific studies here before they can be sold. Many poor & seniors have to buy their drugs from Mexico or Canada, because these same American drugs are cheaper to buy across the border. It's the Fascist corporations that keep us down, because they control the American government.
deVries said:As indicated in a previous post, Fair Trade is a good thing. I don't support Trade Treaties that allow for slash & burn destruction of either country's populations or environment to enrich wealthy elites on both sides whilst ignoring the damage such trade disruptions cause to the poor & middle class & damage to their environment. That's why I rephrased the idea of Free Trade to contrast it with idea of Fair Trade.
H. Ross Perot knew Americans, the poor & middle class, would be totally & completely screwed if we bought into the idea of Free Trade. I believe he was proven right for the last 20+ years. You can't change my mind without proof I'm wrong about what has happened to Americans & their jobs & communities. It has gotten much worse rather than much better. It's been a race to the bottom.Philistine said:Free trade is fair trade, because the minute that you get to choose what is "fair", guess what? You make it unfair for the next guy. If you doubt that, go look at the US behaviour in relation to IP and TRIPS. That isn't because the US are a c&nt of a government, that is because, guess what? They are self interested, just like everyone else, that is why we need true freedom. It is the same reason we need "freedom of speech", because the minute we let someone decide what is "fair" speech, mine (and lots of others) pie holes get shut.
Hey friend, Fair Trade is not the same as unfair trade. Free Trade can never be, since, in truth, all countries are at different levels of development. I want Americans to enjoy the benefits of Fair Trade, so American citizens can do well as trade expands too. I think the Germans have much better labor & education standards & more equality with better wages & incomes for all. Germany is the greatest exporter nation for its size in the world or certainly the western world. Its manufactured goods are a marvel of engineering vs The Shit from China Walmart or other inferior goods from less developed countries trying to improve.Philistine said:EDIT: I really want to nail home this point, it astounds me that Americans (of all people), don't get the importance of Free Trade. It is simply ontologically incoherent, and deductively false, to attempt to maintain that a civic polity should have freedom of speech, without freedom of international trade. FFS, you protect the concept of interstate freedom of trade, but magically the minute you leave Federal sovereignty the concepts evaporate into thin air? If you believe in the underlying principles of the US Constitution, then you MUST, support free trade. Maybe you don't support the US Constitution? I don't know. Personally I think the US Constitution is one of the most beautiful documents ever created by man (certainly miles better that that POS the Bible), I wish it was Australia's Constitution (ours is a steaming pile of crap), but I scratch my head sometimes at the inanity and spoilt brat ideas that come out of (what I consider) the second best country in the world (which has the best Constitution).
America does not have to depend on China for Walmart products & lose our good jobs here to be replaced with cheap crap from there. That's neither Free Trade or Fair Trade. We can do better here at home, rather than race to the bottom, and the Chinese can improve over time too. That's Fair Trade instead of Junk Trade or Unfair Trade aka Free Trade in the USA thanks to Fascist Free Traders.
I am very appreciative of the Chinese people. I have known many. They are very advanced in the use of electric bikes and scooters, and I do buy these motors & products from China. I support the Chinese people in this way & will continue to do it. Many here on ES recognize that many of these Chinese motors could be manufactured with much better quality in mind, so there is a demand for major improvements. It's better to buy products locally, when possible, so Americans should make better products here and/or demand higher quality from imports too.
