overworking my Bafang

So I ordered a Bafang 36v front drive kit for my mtn bike and when it came it was laced onto a 20" wheel. I got it remounted onto a 26", no problem. Since then I've had re-remounted onto a 700c wheel. Am I placing undue strain on my little motor?

Depends on the winding. It certainly goes faster now, if it was appropriately wound for a 20 inch wheel.

Is the motor getting hot after strenuous rides?

You just have to be more certain what gear you are in when starting and usually lower than previous. I've ridden BBS02 bikes that were fine starting out of the middle gears torque- and load- wise. The larger the wheel though, the lower the gearing you'll want to start in.

You're thinking of a mid drive and not a hub motor.. :pancake:

Derp! I didn't even realize that he said 'front drive' :?

lol

Assuming that it's a 300 plus tpm motor, which is the speed for a 20" wheel. It'll be too fast for a 700c one. It'll run very inefficiently because it won't have the power to run at its efficient speed. Your controller will also get very hot because the motor will draw the maximum current fof most of the time. Unless you can pedal very hard and have a light-weight bike, it's not a smart thing to do. To check the speed, you can use a cycle computer. Lift the wheel and spin it to maximum with the throttle. If it's any faster than 24 mph, it'll be relatively inefficient.

We don't even know what model of bafang motor he has. Those hub motors range from being rated at 200w to 500w ( but 750w in reality )
