P R O J E C T "Y" KILLABICYCLE World record 17 june 2009

Wait a minute, I can make my GPS say 64mph on flat ground anytime I want, I could re-gear and go faster if I wanted. I'm using a full size bicycle, and can pedal. No fairings or anything either, just LiPo on a bike with twin RC motors. With a re-gear, I think Matt's PK-ripper might be even faster than my bike.

I thought you were going for the 1/4mile drag racing world record for an E-bike. Did you get to run at the track?

Videos and info my friend!!! We are all on the edge of our seats here! Get us posted, and then sleep later :) :) :)

If he had a 24 KPH headwind, that would give him an effective 74 MPH top speed in still air. And yes, I'm also dying to find out the 1/4 mi. E.T.

恭賀Doctorbass成功打破世界記錄!

Doc, if your computer can display Chinese, the above reads:

Congratulation to Doctorbass for breaking the world record!

You are one crazy genius  My salute to your courage and ingenuity.

I need to learn French. That said, it's easy to tell Doc is a natural talent. The segments are generous length... very nice, considering the media's penchant for brevity.

Well done Doc!

Another pic showing when i towed a 16000pounds school bus !

LOL! That is great Doc! You're bringing fantastic publicity to E-bikes!

I bet there was a surge in the sales of hubmotors and batteries and controllers today.

Looking great!

"A SURGE IN THE FORCE", "i can feel it" spoke Luke. i bet this really does increase sales.

how fast did you pull the bus or just have to tow it a short distance?

how much faster do you think it will go if you can put more fairing? or maybe a stiff sock with bombay doors to get started off the line?

almost streamliner in front and back already. that has gotta be the big factor at that speed.

congrats.

5305 on 20"!!

did you use your 18 fet controller doc? or the old trusty 12 mosfet x lite you have!!

What was your amp draw like? .. how long where you woot for?

I pulled the bus at around 5-6 kph. that was VERY difficult cause the rear wheel just spined easy and needxed more grip.. so my father helped me by sitting on the bike too!.. we had 320lbs on the bike... and it worked!

I used old tire tube as spring to distribute the force on some lenght to avoid blocking the motor on one phase and risk to blow something.. that helped too.

That was the very first time i towed a schoolbus.. but previously few monta ago when i used a 24"wheel i tried with my car.. and then added my wifes car and it worked.

I had the old 12 fets controller only!!! but i increased the amp limit to 90A ( peaked at 114A)

This is a real electric BULL with a 20" 5305 and 100A 100V !!

Doc

Some great HD pics for your souvenir guys!

So, what did you get in the quarter???

I know my bike holds 64mph (by GPS) easily as it sits right now (60mph up gentle hills), and it's limited by gearing. I'm going to re-gear it, and be the first challenger to your record :)

I think you should be able to take the record back by just increaseing voltage.

Competition always helps to rapidly advance design. Racing is my favorite form of competition :)

Excellent!! that's what i need ! Some competition!

That was my very first day of high speed ride using this bike.. so i have alot of things to upgrade and adjust!

the 1/4 was if i remember correctly 19.7sec.. but i never accelerated fast st the start.. i increased throttle slowly to avoid burning something at speed under 10kmh.. a 5302 draw alot of current at low speed!!

The phase current was around 450A ! according to the 170A battery x 2.5

The torque at 75-80kmh was still very impressive.. it's like i could thing the motor KV could be too low again.. maybe a 5301?.. lol

Since the wind ( 24km/h front wind) was the main slowing factor at that high speed , probably that if there was zero wind i could had reached 110km/h..

I'll do some next tests in the next weeks.

Hey Doc,

Well done, congratulations.
Maybe it needs a transatlantic challenge too. :D

What's the definition of an electric bicycle as opposed to an electric motorcycle?

Nick

Thanks Nick !

Electric Motorcycle HAVE NO PEDALS... and the frame structure is different. Motorcycle frame are built to have motor and transmission.. bicycle are not optimized for that.

Thanks Doc,

Is it only the pedals? I'm thinking of not only what the "man in the street" would think, but the definition for purposes of record setting and racing. What about a weight limit? Here in Europe there is a 40 kg max weight for an electric bike. Above that it is a moped or a motorcycle.
