Pacific If Reach folding bike electrification

I'd be nervous about bending an aluminum frame that far too. I'd much sooner find a machinist to take some meat off the axle, if it could be done in a precise way. A proper custom fit axle would be way better though.. geez.. 120mm is a weird size.

BTW for the OP.. i didn't know the company you were looking at was called 'pacific cycles' - which is a totally different company than 'pacific cycle', that makes crappy $100 bikes for wal mart / target / etc.

Pretty easy to shave an axle shoulder down with a hacksaw. Shockingly soft metal usually.

I wouldn't hesitate to tweak the frame out 5mm on each side, so that means you only need to shave 10mm of the axle, not 20. Hopefully you'll still be able to get a 5 speed freewheel to work.

Dogman, have you already do that before? It seems quite dangerous because once shaved the shaft would be weakened.

And that may then not perfectly fit the freewheel?

I've done it on front motors. So I could put spacer washers on the shoulder of the axle. Once you have a motor in your hand, it will make sense to you. Depending on the way the motor axle is made, you may be simply shortening or removing a spacer washer anyway.

Are you sure it's easy? On the front motor there is no freewheel. You just have to make sure it goes inside the dropout.

For the rear motor I may not be able to add the freewheel after and may need to throw the motor away if I fail to shave the shaft.

I haven't checked the spacing yet, but i looked up shipping prices to the UK..
It seems Cost Preventative.. It was like $90 to ship an 18lb package of 22"x22"x10" size..
Cwah, maybe you can find it cheaper? From FL USA to UK..

I think the only way it could be cheaper would to send it by boat. I'm in touch with Cellman, he may be able to provide a 120mm dropout mac motor!!!

As I don't know if your motor would fit, it's maybe for me to buy from Cellman.

ps: How come the package weight 18lbs? isn't it quite heavy for a wheel+motor?

That was a guestimate on my part.. Yeah it's a bit heavy.. (High wind motors usually are)...
That's why I said it might work well for you.. It definitely is beefy (in terms of weight), yet its a small geared motor, fancy that!

When I have the exact dimensions and weight, I'll ask the post office..
(I think when I looked, I chose international priority mail which is 3-7 days.. There's prolly a cheaper/slower way (hopefully not by boat... Lol) that's like 7-10 days.. (maybe parcel post?))

Perfect solution then, just get the right size motor from Cellman. Amazing what he can get for you, if you just ask him. Gonna cost to ship a motor from anywhere, they all come from china anyway. Just pay what it costs and forget about it.

Thanks guys, I'm in touch with Cellman.

I'm now also wondering about my magnet:

I'm not sure I'll be able to use the complet magnet shaft with any new motor?

A bit confused here...
(a state of mind, I'm not completely unfamiliar with)

Is that for quick removal of the wheel?
(like most use on the front wheel of a bicycle..

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but that won't work with a hub motor..

Or what is a "magnet shaft"... I'm not that smart when it comes to regular bicycle stuff...

it's just the magnet allowing the 2 wheels to stick together once folded.

I'd like to keep it otherwise it wouldn't make sense to have a folder that doesn't fold

Any idea how I could do that?
