Poor in America? Shouldn't be in America-Toxic Waste Version

Thanks to rampant unemployment in California, there's been an uptick in independent movies created by the disaffected youth in LA on netflix.

This one stood out to me as particularly intriguing amid the standardized Hollywood "blah".

The cover, it just had an aura of "watch me".

Unicorn+City+(2012)+DVDRip.jpg

The description sounded so original and 'true', as well.

Unicorn City:

And, holy crap, the female lead is smoking hott!!! Why don't regular movies get lasses like that?

The acting is authentic in the sense that's how you'd expect real life people to act if they were starring in a show. Not like "good acting", but "real acting". Kind of like that other independent film, Video Game Highschool. "Real acting" as opposed to the too-sophisticated-and-clever-to-be-real-life hollywood acting ("Video Game Highschool" was also different because it's as if the writer wrote the script around the actual personality of the actors. The actors might have written their own scripts, for all I know.).

The onus is on YOU, dude. When you try to just dismiss what you can't understand, you prove you just don't get it.

No. Debt is money you spent before you earned it.

Though pithy, it's not that simple.

Occam's Razor: Items should not be multiplied unnecessarily. This is considered the root of such saying as 'The simplest explanation is nearly always the correct one,' as well as 'Keep it simple, stupid.' William of Ockham would look at your wordy, convoluted self endulgence and say "Among competing hypotheses, the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected." Debt is money you spent before you earned it. It's simple, it's direct, it's what Friar Ock wanted to hear. You think you can blind us with Bull, yet you're so easily baffled by brilliance.

So here's something you can play with in all this other play you've got going on. Start with induction, bottom up reasoning, to see what general examples you can use as representative BEFORE making up your mind, quit this deciding what you want to believe before looking at a shred of evidence.

Then you move on to the deduction. As Sir Arthur Conan Doyle said (Through Sherlock Holmes, of course) 'When you take away all that is not true, what you are left with is, out of necessity, THE TRUTH." the general principle you arrived at from your inductive probability allows you, from the top down, to derive specific truth from examples.

Skin in the game. Yeah, so in 'Lady of the Tropics' Bill Carey passes up the chance to marry rich because he falls for Manon, who passes up the chance to marry into French Indonesian royalty because he identifies more with her French heritage (And German accent) from her father and likes Carey better anyway. But the French didn't want the 'Half Caste' to leave Indonesia, so they won't let her out of the country. Plus there's this ruthless businessman. To stay with her leaves Carey impoverished, she has no way to support them either. Now THAT is having skin in the game.

401k? I'm more the Roth IRA type if I was seriously developing a proper pension. A little something in the Public Employees Retirement System from parttime teaching and one parttime city job, nothing serious so far. Otherwise I have this sort of first person "Trust that's not a trust" that others can't get to but I don't have to wait for retirement if necessary.

Meanwhile, if I had told you to buy Nintendo back at not quite $12/share but you didn't listen, you'd be kicking yourself less than a year later when it hit $70. (And people did.) Lowes, NVidia, United Online, Reliance Steel and Aluminum; can I pick 'em or what? Well, I could when things were better. Sure made it easier to get through without a stable employment. A permanent position would feel so much better, even when a job dies it helps you to find another simply because you held it, when the investments peter out they don't steer you to new ones.

I suppose if I'd had more to invest with at the time I might not have to worry anymore, but I'm sure I still would. You're never so far from desperation. How little it would take for anyone to end up like poor Manon.

They've making---STUFF--- like you posted since before I ever took a crack at it. Ever see 'And God Spoke?' 'Living in Oblivion?' 'Sweet Liberty?' 'The Spice Guys?' Even 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' kept looking behind the scenes.

I respect your opinions, but your insistence that "I don't get it" is so laughable.

All I'm going to say is...

The truth is rarely pure and never simple. -Oscar Wilde

(I'll check out those movies. :) )

Once upon a time, my sense of importance and omniscience reified into the form of an amorphous blob. One cat, seeing it, later remarked in her telling of the sighting to her feline friends:

it-was-this-big.jpg

So, I'm just saying, any suggestions to the contrary will be met with staunch opposition.

Well, I could explain my understanding of what's going on here, but it'd be pointless because it'd be a waste of energy. So, I'm choosing my battles wisely.

If only this was 4chan, I'd be using some appropriate images here. But, cat's got my tongue, I'll leave it at that.

There's a story I heard once about two animals foraging in the forest. They're starving and haven't had a morsel of food for days. At one time, they bumped into each other and since they're both starving, the thought of their competitors getting food that could be theirs perturbed the animalistic parts of their brain to the extreme. So, they did what any resource deprived animals did and they fought it out to the death. Over many years, their descendants evolved into primates and then homo homo sapiens who developed language and advanced social cognition. However, the primal parts of their cognition remain. Despite their sense of superiority over their less sophisticated animalistic brethren, most people are essentially primalistic herd animals underneath that glossy veneer. Some people evolve further and put such animalistic tendencies away, but most never quite get that advanced on the evolutionary ladder.

The whole point of being on chan4chan is the images NOT being appropriate. Here you go, about as far as we want on ES. (Don't ask why she was doing that in my direction.)

So, I'm choosing my battles wisely.

Even though it's not supposed to be a battle, it's supposed to be a DISCUSSION! Oh, but I'm still expecting you to get it, eh? The heavy artillery was never meant to be used as any sort of communication device, let alone to rewrite historical documents. But I guess you're just waiting for the next arms shipment.

Feel sad.

The problem with you is that you're making me mad. And I can tell that's been your primary mission ever since your first landing here.

So, I'm going to be glad, instead. Just. Like. THIS:

From here on out, we're talking about how the poor have it worse off in America compared to this country and that one. As much as inflation has a whole lot to do with that, and the agency that causes it (The federal reserve), and the money system that's engineered to do just that, and the government-causing generational-debt-enslaving-to-the-wall-street-overlords system known as college, and the market and socioeconomic trends that clearly imply many's longterm impoverishment in the USA, clearly that's too complex for a few people (Or, rather, too mathematical or too-forward-thinking-required in nature for them to care, I can't tell). So, I'm just going to focus on comparative discretionary income stats between the USA and other countries.

I wish everyone would check in their ancient preconceptions about the United States and its vainglorious yesteryears, and take a look at what's happening NOW and what's going to happen IN THE FUTURE.

Actually, no. One of the reasons you're having so much trouble is you think you're the center of the universe, which is not uncommon for a troll. As long as I'm about I tend to go ahead and be the one that takes the steam out of the steam roller before it can run anyone else over. If that makes the steam roller mad, it's because the steam roller looks for any opportunity to get hot. The steam roller has no business running people over. But it so enjoys getting hot.

Back when I actually used to get PAID to be the internet 'Shane' on boards like this one, the bosses always marveled at my ability to deliver a 'Brain Freeze,' people made jokes about my slurpee machine. Yeah, there's only one way there'll be any peace. The disorganized mind demands that the rest of the world become organized to suit it, which of course is impossible, therefore the disorganization increases and the steam roller gets hotter.

Meanwhile, I concluded I really didn't like having the job. Mostly I can just skip over people on boards whom I'd have to deal with if it was work. Yet I do feel a certain responsibility, as the one who can deal with the problem, when one particular troll is just so- - - PERSISTENT! It doesn't make you smart when you can bully people to the point they just say 'Whatever' and let you dance around singing 'I win, I win, it's just like having dindin.' That's just a discussion killer.

The problem is I'm not the only one that's displaying far more understanding than yourself. You're actually rather imaginative in your concepts, i.e. the sun will rise over there because YOU said it will, you'll be mad if it doesn't. It'll take more than rebar to shore up your distractions----er, ABSTRACTIONS.

Let's get you started on exponential growth/exponential decay. What are they? Why, they're one and the same. They keep talking about job creation, they never mention how many jobs are destroyed in creating the new ones. Theoretically the growth and decay are supposed to balance one another out. But we have the Fed and it's currency manipulation, so we have more decay than growth overall as we pay the toll for the manipulation. A phase shift here, a vertical translation there, it's possible to get a short term benefit when the Fed prints money and spends it. The long term effect is what we've been going through for years.

Meanwhile, the same is at work with the corrosive Obamic economic 'Stimulus.' The money is ill spent and creates no jobs, yet we still have the destruction of the economy from taking away the ability of others to borrow money.

Just a small taste of what you REALLY need to learn if you want to pretend you're an economic wonk, rather than wanker. It's best to just put someone simple up because your needs are so superficial right now. Just remember, experts don't get hot, steam rollers do.

Seriously? This is my freaking thread and I'm making highly relevant, well-researched and well-informed posts and you're calling *me* the troll?

If you need a name for your mirror, 'Irony' is sounding pretty appropriate.

Btw, I'm glad you seem to have some semblance of understanding what's going on, at least from the broader angle. Now, I can tell you like your grandiloquent concepts which do have mathematical meaning but are pretty irrelevant without context, and are ultimately intended to impress the uninformed, but I can overlook such pathetic attempts to impress.

Now, go away dude. You're not helping - You're just here on some quixotic mission to vanquish your internet goblins. And, quite frankly, it's ruining the spirit of this thread.

FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, THIS THREAD HAS OFFICIALLY ENTERED INTO ITS NEXT PHASE.

to be honest, I have no clue about money and stuff, am very dumb with this respect.

But, I got me a little pile somewhere (plain savings) and am wondering what to do with it. It seems to
me you get screwed no matter what so maybe it's time to screw the system back. At 41 yrs
of age I got enough to live on modestly (in a cheap warm south european country) for 10
to 15 years. Since (statistically speaking) I'll only stay healthy for the next 15 to 20
years, I'm wondering whether the wisest thing to do would be to quit work and enjoy myself
for the next 10-15 yrs while I'm still in good health. After that I can look for work again.
This will be difficult but Europe typically has a good social support system and I figure
it's about time they pay me back what I paid into it. Failing health will mean I won't be
a good employee but hey, who cares ? (after 10 yrs of beach/sun/traveling/cycling time, I'm guessing I won't :) ).

I mean, the other option is to keep working, get even more money (but inflation and greedy
bankers put it at risk), get fired in some sort of re-organisation (to cover up for high-placed
f*ckups) at the age of 55 and then be forced to live of my savings (right at the start of the
bad-health part of life).

But, at the moment Is still enjoy my work.. as an inbetween solution I reduced hours to 80%
and maximised my return-on-work-time by moving to a very highly paid country. But I seriously
have the above scenario in mind for when I lose the enjoyment....

Hey Y, if you want to ban me you can. Yes you can , you can ban-ban. Long live the Pointer Sisters.

SWBLUTO started another thread about Poor and whether they SHOULDN"T be here in America.
I replied to that one as well.

With all due respect to everyone's heritage (heritage, what a crock!)
The natives were doing just fine here before Columbus did the doooo.
Europeans have very little concept of what it takes to live outside "THE BOX"

The smartest people in the world can NOT decide on which way it will take to cure what ails us.

Live by money, die by money...or love, or giving, or suppression
or greed, or any other, including wisdom!
Finally, none of these factors, including money, has much to do with the fateful day, do it?
Where's Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama when you need them?

That's all I have 4 you guys.
Ban away, this toxic day.

Ypedal i was jesting, even though I would like to hear some Pointer Sisters momentrily.
BTW I wanted to commend you on your choice of fire retardant suit. Its a gas!
