Until then, get ready, my friends. What is about to be unleashed on American society will be the greatest campaign ever created to get you to feel normal again. It will come from brands, it will come from government, it will even come from each other, and it will come from the left and from the right. We will do anything, spend anything, believe anything, just so we can take away how horribly uncomfortable all of this feels. And on top of that, just to turn the screw that much more, will be the one effort that’s even greater: the all-out blitz to make you believe you never saw what you saw. The air wasn’t really cleaner; those images were fake. The hospitals weren’t really a war zone; those stories were hyperbole. The numbers were not that high; the press is lying. You didn’t see people in masks standing in the rain risking their lives to vote. Not in America. You didn’t see the leader of the free world push an unproven miracle drug like a late-night infomercial salesman. That was a crisis update. You didn’t see homeless people dead on the street. You didn’t see inequality. You didn’t see indifference. You didn’t see utter failure of leadership and systems.

I didn't really follow what happened but didn't all Trump do was to give the governors the right to open their state or keep their state shutdown? something about 3 phases?

It is not within his powers legally to "let" them, nor force them.

Which is why he's taking that approach.

Of course he has his ways of illegally punishing and rewarding, as he has threatened.

Too bad he never took the steps necessary to allow "opening" things back up safely, and is still refusing to be helpful or constructive.

Almost like they want lots of people to die, and cause an even Greater Depression that lasts longer than necessary.

Fact is all he cares about, is trying to avoid being blamed desperately try to hang onto power.

Sad!

its a shitty situation no matter how you look at it, I think I read a stat about the 2008 crisis where for every million of unemployed there was 5000 more suicides. so you have 22million unemployed and it would continue to increase as the shutdown continued.

so 100,000 forecasted suicides from job losses because of the virus shutdown? I would call that a bs model but theres going to be suicides.

no part of this is good, nobodys winning

You're missing that the REAL gaslighting is being done by the OP. Oh, here's a story that will give him the most delightful opportunity to rage against and continue his gaslighting. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/18/politics/cdc-coronavirus-testing-contamination/index.html

Yeah, ain't it horrible when they rely on facts when we all know the real heroes like you work on inciting reckless emotions.

Or as my Dad would have called you, 'Sad SACK!'

This week the army just accepted a ½ BILLION dollar bid for 17 miles of fence on the California Mexico border.

What bullshit is that? Seems that is money that could be better spent solving the trump virus problem. I wonder how many test kits that would purchase?

BTW... the bid came from a trump campaign contributor.

Yes it has been known from the beginning that CDC screwed up.

I am happy to say we don't know yet if any of the incompetent yes-men toady sabateurs Orange Juilius has appointed above the civil servants contributed to that fiasco.

But a perfectly good test previously developed by WHO was offered to us long before that, and we could have pretty easily ramped up to the 7-10million per week tests required back in February.

Which would have allowed us to safely start opening up by now, knowing, with an accurate knowledge of any outbreaks we can keep them under control.

Right now we're flying completely blind, and that is why opening up would be catastrophic.

And, I hear you ask, why on Earth would our leaders have turned down an effective test already developed by WHO?

1. suspicion of international cooperation agencies

2. jingoistic pride, wanting a 'Murican solution

which is exactly what we are stuck with

but pretty stupid to think the word "solution" applies here.

Thanks for those, look like good sources.

However,

The group said it focused most of its efforts on "countries with the weakest health systems."

That should have included the US, and if we had asked for their design / protocols we would in fact have been far ahead of the curve compared to relying on the CDC.

And in reality the overall point still stands, our fearless leader does not want the level of testing that are required to "open up" safely.

Dang, you are so good at this gaslighting, I could see ANY vulnerable, easily confused fool falling in line. Of course I'm immune to such weak manipulation, but I can sure see when it's going on and you are obviously SO PROUD! I mean the patting yourself on the back with the gaslight itself really shines through. Just don't set yourself on fire with it.

Here in my area of California, the young people are not taking covid-19 seriously at all.
I have been watching them for weeks , The millennials that is, and the latino families, and have been talking to people who work in large businesses.

Their attitude is ... It is just the Old and Sick that will have a problem with covid-19 . Yea that is how they feel and think.

I even had one Latino millennial that I know tell me that many of them ( not him ) were happy about covid-19 because ... it was killing off the old white people !!
He said they have a name for it , they call covid-19 the Boomer Remover !

Two days ago on Thursday I went to ride on a bike path, I have never seen so many people out on that path, more people there than on a warm Sunday .
only about 4-5 of the nearly 100 or perhaps over 100 people were wearing a Mask. and groups of people that are between 15-30's years of age , were walking next to each other in groups .
Less than 15 , or even less of the over 100 people were over 40.

That's funny, around me the mask nazis have just started taking over. There's stores not letting people in without a mask, some are passing out just a little waste of time thing, so it's not about it doing any good, it's all for image. Or should I say all for STYLE!

But yesterday there was some big gathering at some industrial park mega church, or at least I think that's what the place is. Much traffic with cops directing it so it was no secret it was happening. Today right close to me there was as much as a mile of one of the main streets with them blocking a lane to park. I couldn't figure out where all the people had gone, there used to be another of those designer religions in a commercial space right there but there were no people around it - or anywhere else nearby.

One store in Calgary is taking temp's of its customers. T&T asian supermarket, which had major health violations in their grocery stores not long ago. If your above whatever # you cant go in and buy food and asked politely in some asian accent with a heavy emphasis on RRRRRR sounds to go to a clinic or hospital. Whats next, they dial a # and your scooped away, like China did.

Some metropolitan city put in place mask order for riding transit. Is it NYC, or NJ. Though a scarf would suffice.

Travel by plane needs mask. Not sure where i heard that, might be canada. The thing is with airports is they should supply the mask or have it at cost $5 max. And if its $5, it better be n95, but the gov't arent that smart. Cheap bastids.

Obviously a private business has the right to ensure the safety of its customers and employees.

And yes everyone needs some sort of mask out in public.

But only buy good ones once the health workers in your area are well supplied.

Importing in a hundred and giving most to them would be a good contribution.

Here's a right-winger, refreshing to get some truth out of one for once:

It’s not about the size of the government. It’s about competence

Valid points
BUT private business is more interested in making money, then safety of employee's and customers. Examples would be, in times like now, safety 1st means close down the drive through, not have it open to make money, further risking health of employee which in turn would spread to other employees. Spread through debit credit machine, the touching of drive thru bags, coffee cups, toughing of cash. The employees are just trying to make rent, minimum wage worker dont care if they got a lil fever, or some cough last night. Do you think fast food joint is checking temps of their workers at beginning of shift and at the end of the shift. All I've heard is T&T Supermarket and some commercial food operators like Cargill that are checking temps of their workers. The vast majority of fast food workers are asian.

lots of over generalizations there

and what the heck would an employee's ethnicity have to do with anything?
