does anyone know if it is ok to replace my front wheel which is a quick release style(as is the fork) with a cheaper nutted axle? my rim is damaged and i need a new black 26" w/ black spokes for my townie bike. anyone have one for sale/trade?

It's okay if the axle fits the fork end. Make sure the lawyer lips don't prevent the nuts and washers from seating properly.
Why not just have your present hub relaced into the new rim?

If you're going to get a new front wheel, now might be the time to get one with a hub thats disc brake compatable. An Avid BB7 front disc kit is only about $45, and the only other thing you'd need would be a longer brake cable. Your forks already have the mount. It's all really simple to install. I'd stick to one with a quick release axle.

any pics of your setup vim? i dont know if my forks will work w/ disks. was kinda hopeful the kool stops would be almost as good as disk but less $$

I's fine so long as your washer is the same outside diameter as the QR ends, and the washer fits good.

The other way around, QR on designed for nuts dropounts is more the problem. Tends to slip and get crooked.

And of course, the hub motors that have BIG nuts and washers are a problem on QR dropouts.

Yeah, I think the Kool Stops are fine for speeds under 30 mph. But if you ever add more speed, the Avid BB7 will bolt right on to your Townie fork. It already has the mounting adapter on the shock tube. All you have to get is a longer brake cable and disc compatable hub laced into your front wheel.
