In case you didn't know, Raleigh actually makes cool bikes. But, you probably won't see them in a bike shop that uses them as a secondary brand. Or, they'd likely be selling these out from under the specialized/trek/giant/ etc that they carry.
This is a 2018 Raleigh Redux 1 in matte blue , large frame (19"). I put a cyclone 3000 on it, hooked up to an 'entry level' 14s 20ah battery (29F I think, w/ 30a bms). Controller is a 60a bluetooth , scaled back to 50% battery (30a) and phase (?)
Gearing is a 14T motor fw, 44T first chainring, 40T second ring (stock from bike), and a 34,28,24,21,18 cassette (sunrace cs-m66 12-34T 8sp), spaced out for better chainline.
Tires are stock 650B WTB Horizon 47 , 60psi with TR tubes. Excellent grip on these baddies. The shitty, stock promax brakes actually work pretty damn well, after much hard braking and heat treatment.
I'm running 1500w through it right now, to get the feel for middrives. I love this bike. It grows on me every ride. I didn't care at all for middrives for a while. I was all about the DD hub motors. But, I came around.
I don't need a middrive in flat orlando, so that wasn't the reason. I wanted gears to play with. And, as a road cyclist who loves to power through the gears in a sprint, it seemed inevitable that I would want this. I still love it after 900 miles of riding this thing. Some people complain that gears suck, but not for me. It's more fun to play with.
Future plans are a brake upgrade to Avid BB7S 200mm front , 180mm rear , and an 18s16p pack of 30Q cells. At the new power level, I'll run 40a for 2500w power in , and ~2000w power out. Should hit 40mph , and do 120 mi at 20mph, according to the sim.
Top speed is 30 mph in 5th gear (18T) , but it might go 34 with a 16T sixth gear, according to the ebike sim. I can get ~50 mi with very carefully slow acceleration, and cruising 18-20 mph (1st and 2nd gear), with lots of motor-off pedaling on downgrades. I can get 40 miles cruising 18-20 motor only. And, if I'm having fun hotrodding it around with many ~20s blasts to 30mph, I can get around 30 mi to 3.5v unloaded.
