When I met his work I was moved to write to him, a word of thanks.

He replied in a personal way, so gentle and so manly,
that in comparison, some people here at E.S. are, as seen above,
equivalent to garden slugs on LSD,

It is so true. I have said it many times before: the sword of wit cuts both ways.
Both sides die. Wit is a terrible thing to hone, to use, to die for.
Wit is nothing but words. Words, however, can be fatal for all involved.
