Removable bag?

I'm planning my build so that the battery will be held in the middle triangle/v of the bike. Now I've seen some triangle bags and such but what I wanted to ask was what is the easiest one to remove and take with me? I'm not too concerned about carrying 30 pounds with me but I am concerned with somebody getting curious and potentially stealing my battery when the bike is parked in downtown Atlanta. I've seen some builds where people have built a locking box for the battery but that seems to just draw more attention to it and screams steal me. Just trying to cover all bases and I haven't seem exactly what I'm looking for yet.

****Do this before your first post or now (it's retroactive)*****
Please go to the User Control Panel, select Profile, and then enter your city, state/province, and country into the Location field (country minimum) and save it. This will help people help you. Example: Wylie, TX, USA. Without knowing what country you are in it's hard to make any recommendations and you will waste your time and others. Thank you.

Atlanta TX. USA? :D
30 lbs of battery is huge. My 888wh battery is under 15 lbs

I was just saying up to. :) Mine will probably be about the same. I'll go update my info.
Well apparently I can't edit that on tapatalk. But Atlanta, GA.

The triangle bag I have now is not impossible to remove, but not easy either. Lots of velcros, which is good. And it has no carry handle.

There is a very easy solution. an inner bag, box, or whatever has a decent carry handle on it. Unzip the bag, take that inner bag with you. Leave the triangle bag on the bike.

I just saw that post actually and came to the same realization. I'd probably be carrying a backpack anyway. Remove the battery, lockup the controller and be good to go. Also that bag would make a good place to store my tracker phone. Have a cheap boost mobile phone I can tap into for GPS etc. costs $5 a month to use for these purposes.

Where would be the cheapest place to get the triangle bag?

I just scored one off ebay for 17.99 shipped. It's on the way to me now, so I don't know of the exact quality, but it seems decent and the right size.

Hey Wes,
You seem interested in this sort of thing; you could do a post where you put everyone on the sphere’s real name and addresses for them. Heck, as an added bonus why not post their criminal histories for them too.

I have played around with real estate enough to know you can get almost anyone’s full name if you know their address.
I know that you can get a near exact address if someone is using DSL or a dial-up connection.
I know you can get a bull’s eye exact address if someone posts an online picture, even if it is a picture of their e-bike sitting in their garage. Here’s an article about this 5 ways the modern world makes you extremely easy to stalk
Everyone’s criminal history is available to anyone with a computer. Here in Arizona it’s totally free, but web sites like peoplesmart.com let you find anyone in the United States’ record for just mere pennies and I’m sure the US isn’t the only place that allows this.

Please realize I am joking here; I presume Dogman uses the name dogman rather than Dan ****** because he doesn’t want his full real name blasted out to every Tom Dick and Harry. It’s just feels creepy to have your intimates hanging out there for everyone to see.

I think you should stop asking people to post their personal info. Not everyone is comfortable doing this.

Sorry.....
Triangle boxes are pretty cool. If you do decide to do a wooden one keep in mind that the bike frame flexes a little every time you hit a bump causing an inproporly built case to creak and groan. My favorite setup so far has been one that is welded directly to the frame of my bike so that I do not have to haul my battery pack in to work with me, but this setup is quite permenant. If you use a nylon bag your batteries have a tendency to bump around and wear each other out. My batteries developed little worry rub marks from doing this.

So you consider the country they live in too personal to post. That's just weird imo. I don't see how posting the country you are in is going to help criminals find you. It may narrow it down to several million or more people, but get real.

Naw,
you do not need L33T hacker skills to find out what town someone is using their computer from even if they IP by proxy. It's just that a lot of these guys are making thier very first posts and it just seems really creepy to me to welcome them to the sphere by asking them their personal info, even if it is just the ol' "update what town you live in" request.

Well, I'm going to keep doing it. I got tired of everyone asking questions that requires you to know what country they are in before anyone can respond with a reasonable response. If you can't see that, I feel for you.

I've seen that exact bag and wondered on the quality. Let me know once you get it as I may go the same route.

I have a frame bag that holds a few litres, but the weight of my battery can't go in there, it would ruin it's appearance. I have got a couple of eyelet kits, one for 6mm laces and one for 15mm laces. I intend to add eyelets to the bag in order to feed wires and cable ties though them. Inside my bag I want a piece of wood or metal bar along the top, cable-tied through some eyelets to the top tube of my frame. Hopefully hidden by the velcro straps. From this 'beam' I will hang everything. Non of it will be pretty to look at, but that bag is not coming off without cutting a lot of wires and ties that will make the whole thing somewhat ruined. They are probably not going to want it that much. They will know they didn't get the lot. They will also know from robbing car stereo's that a unit without leads is useless even in a huge marketplace.

Taking it off would be better, but I have not started the construction yet. I can't see that far ahead yet. However, I have picked up some rectangular section cooker venting hard pipe. It is about 55x110mm square and far to long. I intend to put my 3 4s 5Ah bricks in there with a bms. It will be the battery part of the equation nicely self contained. I bet I will find a way it can come out the bag. My controller won't though, or my dc-dc convertor.

I imagine a 2x4 alloy section could be held to the bike with metal strapping for a tougher solution. Even stacked. If your pack can fit in such a container. These popular 4s hk 5Ah hardpacks slot inside 16swg 2x2 nicely. That is why I'm looking at 2x4 plastic ducting for my 3 bricks and a bms. Unfortunately no stop ends seem to exist for this ducting though. Otherwise I could be more professional about it.

That sounds like a well engineered solution. I might just get the ev bag that was recently reviewed as it does seem appropriate for my uses.

Another question, has anybody done a cruiser bike and mounted it in the middle?

So I received the bag and you get what you pay for. I got $17.99 worth of bag for the $17.99 that I paid. LOL

Findings:

  • Size is good for about 6-8 5S 5000mAh LiPo bricks depending on your ability and how much padding/etc. I'll try with more when I get home
  • Padding is non-existent. Literally. You will need to do something about it. I think ABS sheets and some foam would make this thing solid!
  • Materials and zippers and construction are OK. Nothing to write home about, but not the SUPER cheap ballistic nylon. I would say just under JanSport quality as materials go.
  • Velcros are stitched at least, that will keep it from just falling apart after some time.
  • The vinyl piping, tags, and stitching are actually nice.

Bottom line:

Middle of the road quality. Not horribly flimsy but what you would expect in this price range. Here's some photos that I snapped in my office on a coworker's bike:

Thanks for the follow up on the Iberra bag. 'been wondering about that one and nice to see it actually mounted on a bike.

I always use Coroplast or thin Masonite for some physical protection inside the various bags I use for RC Lipo. I'd probably add some dense foam as well for this bag.

OT - I do understand the frustration of trying help folks with no idea what continent and/or country they hail. I've come to the conclusion probably best to just ignore 'em or perhaps direct them to an ES help page about how to post questions that'll more likely get a response? Location, expectations, tech skill level, battery chemistry, etc....

I'm glad to help.

as for the location, I think this is the one forum in which I would like to require location as part of your profile. If you want to lurk and don't need to interact, no location.

Want to interact with the other members and get helpful information? Location in profile should be required. Who can we petition for this change?

I just ordered that Iberra Bag from Amazon with some of my points from the points2shop.com rewards site. I'm planning on putting my little 48V 10A pack in there to better distribute the weight across my frame. I'm glad to see one of us actually using one for that purpose.

...the bag I'm making is made to be removeable. The photo does not show it's finished state - but there are two quick release clips front and back and a couple of velcro straps which secure it to the frame... It's extremely durable, weather proof, and vented for controller cooling. Holds 6 8ah Lipo bricks, controller etc. All wiring to motor, throttle, CA, charger and 12V out, exit the bag at the base and have plugs at this point. A shoulder strap is clicked into the clips to carry it away. takes about 1 minute to remove, and about the same to re-install.

That's nicer than I can engineer. Looks like the eBay bag will work. I intended to secure my batteries with coroplast around each set of 7.4V parallels and surrounding the whole thing. Should be able to fit a 50V~ 15aH in there. Hopefully.

+1
I TOTALLY AGREE. NOT ASKING FOR YOUR S.S. # JUST A CITY, STATE OR AT LEAST COUNTRY.
DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THAT IS SO BAD.

To the question of asking random strangers for their personal info my opinion of "it's just wierd man" remains firmly on the "stalwart" side of things. Opposed to say a question like which is better in general mid-drive or hub, "hub motor" ranking more on the "ambivalent" side of things.

To the question of whether I hate Wesnewell or not; he is a fellow e-biker so I imagine that deep down inside my heart callous to "personal info askers" I may be able to accept him despite his evil, evil ways.

But is your location really personal?

I share my "location" with about 5 million other citizens. Maybe if people don't like to share specifics, at least a hemisphere or country helps. If your country is smaller than 5 million inhabitants, list the continent.

:D

EDIT: I'm a big fat liar. I just said 5 million when I didn't even include my city of Los Angeles. My profile says California, and that's about as private as 38.4 million can be. So to be consistent, I should suggest that the person at least get with 50 million people in the geography. That's not too personal while being regional enough for people to understand where you are.

Because God forbid we stay even remotely on topic.

I apologize.

To make up, here are some photos of the bag with packs inside. My estimate of 6-8 6S Turnigy packs was pretty good. 6 packs fits easily. 7 packs is possible. 8 packs gets hard to zip it closed and I wouldn't do that much personally. (It's possible if you cut the heat shrink and reconfigure to match the bag shape:
