Replacement Anderson Plug

So I just received my golden motor battery and charger...but it was missing the plug to connect to the motor wiring harness. It seems I was sent a USB programming cable instead at no charge, so I'm not going to hassle goldenmotor.ca for a replacement (plus, I'd like to get one sooner than the international shipping will allow...)

Anyway, I was looking at this on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/KFI-Products-QC-20-Quick-Connect/dp/B0027UTJ8U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1426974564&sr=8-5&keywords=anderson+plug

Will that work if I strip the ends? Or do you know of better alternatives?

This is the battery I ordered:

And this is the replacement cable from goldenmotor.ca:

Thanks!

Hard to tell exactly what size Anderson plug is on either item, so they may or may not match.

Find out which one is on the cable from GM, then get the same size. Might be 30/45 amps housing, or could be another.

Looks like an SB50 to me.

powerwerx is the place to go for sure.

To do the SB50's you'll need the Tricrimp tool plus the interchangeable die set (or the more expensive SB-series crimper, which is likely less useful to you). And you'll need the sb50 housing and the contacts for the correct size gauge wire it is. And you'll also have to match the color of the plastic housing, as the SB50's will only mate with the same color.

It's a lot of stuff to get if you only need 1 SB50...If you can find one like that winch adapter with an SB50 already crimped on, that would be much less hassle. Just make sure it's the same color as the one you want it to mate with...

Edit: I find it odd that they're using an SB50 plug on that pack. Seems a bit overkill, no? SB50's are rated for 50A @ 600V...so 30kW. Why not use the pp45's??

Thanks everyone, yes I was digging around and it does seem the plug is compatible with anderson sb-50.

While it doesn't state it exactly on that amazon listing, from the questions and reviews it seems the KFI Products QC-20 connector is the same type of connection and dimensions (1 3/8" wide)...so I think I'll give it a try and let you all know how it goes.

Since it comes with wires attached, I'm assuming all I have to do is strip the ends and connect to my controller's battery input wire. But if I'm missing something let me know!

EDIT...damn, just realized you said they have to be the same color. Guess, I need to keep looking for a black one...

If you want one with preattached wires, so you only have to splice the wires and not crimp pins, look for local used powerchair stuff, or server-sized battery-backup (UPS) system stuff.

Most of the SB50 colors are keyed differently from each other (the gray and the black are the same on the ones I have here, for genuine APP shells, but the blue are different), but if you do some filing or dremeling on the center of the connector between the contact housings, you can still make them fit. ;) See the small blue SB shell in the pics below.

Most of the powerchair stuff I've seen uses teh gray ones, some use black, some blue.

Most of the server UPS stuff Iv'e seen uses blue, or gray.

The color coding is intended to represent hte voltage expected at the connector, but they are not always used that way.

There are also multiple makers of the shells and contacts, and I have found that not every one of them mates with every other, even if they are the same color. I don't know if anyone else makes one smaller than the SB50, but APP doesn't that I know of.

Also be aware that unless it actually says it's an SB50, it may not be teh same physical size--there is a whole range of them for up to very high current applications (I've only got the bottom three sizes; the largest I have is almost the size of the palm of my hand--the smallest in the pics below is the SB50; I forget what the others are, SBxx).

The yellow wire and contact are out of the black shell I was holding in the ohter pic.

Thanks amberwolf for that informative post.

Just to close the loop on this, I wound up asking Gary at goldenmotor.ca for a replacement which he quickly (well, as quickly international shipping allows) provided. It's installed and my magic pie 4 kit is now up and running!

To hedge my bets, I did wind up ordering an anderson sb50 black connector with contacts from ebay...it came around the same time the golden motor replacement part came, so now I have a backup. I tested the fit of the connector and it seems it will work just fine if I ever need it, just need to crimp the wires on.

The problem if you ghetto a crimper it may flatten out the crimp instead of keeping it round like THE crimper would. Like A.W. bottom pic. Making a oval ( Frankenstein ) crimp. This could make hard or impossible to slide into the housing.
Up and running a good thing.

FWIW, the contact crimped in that pic is actually round, just flared for some reason (in a round flare like a trumpet). AFAIK it was crimped with a professional hydraulic crimper (it came out of a piece of equipment, probably powerchair stuff; don't remember). Most of the crimps on these larger contacts I salvage tend to have indentation-crimps instead of complete-encirclement crimps. Never seen the crimpers used so dunno why.
