I've been searching for a right-angle, left output speed reducer with between 10:1 and 20:1 ratio that can handle a MY1020 1000watt, 60V motor (approx 1.2hp).

Where might I find something suitable?

Thanks.

Stan

Your best option is a worm & roller gear set.

Its not something you can get at Walmart or even in a sub-assembly that will meet your needs. It takes a good bit of technical understanding to engineer.

A few sources for the gears are Boston Gear and Stock Drive Products.

doubt these will fit the bill...(too big & heavy IMO)
but something to look at.

For some time I've been thinking of trying to make on from a worm drive circular saw gearbox. The SKIL HD77 has been around for ever and they last a real long time. They are over 2 HP and all parts are availible http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/skil-hd77-7-1-4-quot-worm-drive-circular-saw.html.

Have you checked into some of the powerchair gearboxes? You'd need to cut the input shaft out of / off of the brushed motor and attach that to your new motor, but the boxes can handle quite a lot of torque (I destroyed a lot of stuff with them on CrazyBike2's original middrives).
