I bought a small geared front hub motor - I think it's a Bafang - from a chinese alibaba vendor:
It's not a motor I've ever worked with before. I'm pairing it to this controller and an LCD from BMS battery:

It runs great EXCEPT that under load (my guess, 300+ watts at less than 100 rpm) it emits this terrible whine and the motor doesn't engage at all.
I wish I had more info on the motor - I can post the serial tomorrow morning if that would help.

Sounds like the planetary gears disengaging from the sun gear, maybe?
