S866 max 20a ?

Hi first time poster long time lurker!

S866 on a brainpower 50a max controller will only go to 20a ? Is that right Otis there another way to turn it up ?

I thought it was my controller, I also have an s866 and 20a max also .

The 20a setting seems to do nothing as it’s the same when set to 12a so I don’t know where it gets it’s setting from

Same. I bought a similar set. The controller has a 23 amp, max. The s866 display only goes up to 23a. When it’s set to 23a, I never see anything higher than 20a being pulled from the battery. Ended up getting a KT controller with and LCD3 display. I should’ve gone with KT in the first place.

I now know the issue ! I think my upp 36v battery has a max 20a discharge BMS so need to go up a level

A note on BMS operation:


All BMSs of any kind can do is to shut power off completely when a limit is exceeded. They cannot modulate power (that's what your controller is there for, and to do that job it requires the controller's complexity and hardware, or that of an SMPS / DC-DC converter capable of the full worst-case power level of the entire system)


So if your system is shutting completely off, no power, whenever you exceed 20A, then that's your BMS protecting the battery and itself.

But if your system never shuts off at 20A, just never exceeds that amount of current regardless of load on the motor, it's not the battery or BMS doing it, it's all in the controller/display system. Nothing you change in the BMS will affect this.

That’s what I was thinking to. I’m installing a 35 amp KT controller instead. All the manuals, of the S866, show that only 20 amp max. So I figured that was my limiting factor.
