Samsung 25R/LG 18650HE2/ Sony VTC5 high power 18650 battery

I bought them from r-lsales on ebay. The brackets from Supower.com or supower on ebay. They spot weld but I did mine myself.

About $1,895.00 not counting brackets

this is about 5,3€ per cell. seems to be a good price for the VTC5.

These are new cells for high power applications that have both more capacity and more punch. I have attached some data sheets showing some results for these cells from the manufacturers. Both of these cells have a max continuous discharge of 20A and a max pulse of 35A while still having 2500mah of capacity!.
Looking at those data PDFs, they show a cycle chart going up to only 350, what happened to the good old days where they would show like 2000 cycles?

You can search model s "The battery is guaranteed for eight years or 125,000 mi (201,000 km) for the base model with the 60 kW·h battery pack. The 85 kW·h battery pack is guaranteed for eight years and unlimited miles" that is 201000/400km=502.5 full cycles 0-100% (benefit only from conservative c rating), if you use 20%to 80% in the 50% c rating(discharge charge ) and not really cold or really hot discharge/charge, the battery will die with your vehicle. You can search liveforphysics posts .

I personally prey every day for dual carbon battery to be in my hands next summer but they refuse to give liveforphysics a sample for testing....

Ahh so annoying ebay.com.au (where I go by default) because so many sellers do ship international but so many sellers don't show up at all if you use ebay.com.au vs ebay.com
Just another reason why I am technically a looser living in AU. Maybe this should be the reason to move to America, "Oh surfing ebay by default is a lot easier is the reason I did the big move.."

I want to build a 11S pack, I think 10S is not quite enough and 12S is a little too much power and is wasteful like a V12 car, I am more interested in range.

I have not tried more than 0.3mm thick, But manufacture tells it is able to weld up top 2.6mm (what i doubt)
but up to 1mm thick I believe it would not be a problem, as i use only ~1,5 setting from max 10 available :)
here is the link if you can talk Chinese :D http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.0.0.X4fW1i&scm=1007.10011.531.0&id=1029910039&pvid=ad49c28b-b749-439d-996a-84806110b424

Hey gents, I am thinking about picking up one of these spot welders. If I can become proficient at it, I might run a bi-monthly battery build weekend for local Texas guys to gather expertise to help eachother and also to use the welder and glue gun assembly line.

Couple questions:
1) I presume this is 220v. Can I really just wire this up to a clothes dryer plug and plug it in in the laundry room? If so, I also have that same type of plug outside for my travel trailer.
2) Are there any wear parts I should be extras of? e.g. where can I find extra tips for the welder contacts?
3) Anyone have a local U.S. source for the .3mm thick nickel strips that Andrey has suggested?
4) Anything else I should be concerned about before ordering one on Taobao? I don't read Chinese so I'll have to get my cousin (who does read Chinese) to help me order.

Now to hit up Hyena for advice on the best pack design for a Raptor 140.

Also, I will be ordering about 600 cells (29E, 25R, or VTC5). I am leaning towards the 29E for the extra AH capacity. Does anyone in Texas want to go in together for better pricing?

Cool. I'm looking at buying one too. Do you think 50hz will be a problem here on 60hz. I think it's worth a shot. Want to do a group buy on spot welder s? :)

Brake

Assuming this welder is transformer-based: Running a 50Hz transformer on 60Hz is absolutely no problem - the transformer will actually be slightly under-loaded compared to running on 50Hz.

Hi first post but long time reader. Im about to make a couple of packs my first attempt. These seem rather cheap and I think I'll be happy with any of the batteries mentioned in this thread. Wondering if this company is legit ?

Cheers

Hi RR sp?

Looks not so reputable this seller.
He writes in "Quick Details Model Number: us18650vtc4 "
And "Do not charge battery over 4.29V" meh 4.2 is absolute max. and i prefer not to go over 4.18V.

So it looks like Supower prices are quite a bit higher than other sources. Is this mormal (I know they provide spot welding and and battery spacers)?

Where do you see better prices? I was under the assumption that they are competitive and, most importantly, reputable quality cells.

you have to buy in larger quantities to get a good discount.

I am currently running 52 cell 25R's 10Ah. It has been about 30 or so cycles now. Hopefully these cells will last 2 years and not degrade in capacity.

I would like to build a 20Ah but the weight increase is not what I'm looking for. At 20Ah, I'm looking at carrying 14lbs of weight in my center frame. I remember buying my girlfriend a LiFePo4 36v15Ah pack and that thing was rediculous at 14.5lbs.

I'm hoping in another year or two, Samsung will sell a higher capacity, probably a 2900Ah or 3000Ah 30P or 30R. I don't like 29E due to its lower C rate.

I am buying 560 to 620 cells. I have reached out to some other vendors with some history on Alibaba. While it is not guaranteed, at least they have been a seller for several years...

I don't know about buying from these vendors who haven't been verified by the ES community. At least with supowerbattery, we know they have came through for atleast 5 people here on ES that I know of. With that kind of money going overseas to China, it is a huge gamble, but I guess somebody's gotta take that first jump with anything new.

If they really are in Shanghai, I can probably have someone go check them out in person. The tricky part is knowing the quality of the cell and whether it is genuine or even "old stock" that has been rewrapped...

yeah, some people got scammed when they bought re-wrapped cells. China is the king when it comes to making things look authentic until you take it apart.

Got a quote back from Evva technology for LG 18650HE2 . Ends up being $3.85 each buying per 100 and $90 freight to Australia. Also got a quote for the samsung 25r's and they're $3.95 per unit.

What do yas think?
