Samsung 25R/LG 18650HE2/ Sony VTC5 high power 18650 battery

Thanks for the measurements. It is in fact interesting to see the BE so much heaver then the other cells (despite the others with nickel tabs!)

Holders: (spacers)

So 2.65 g per cell, or mass increase of 5.8% for 45g cell.

Thought it would be worth sharing my recent purchase I made from Alibaba.

I enquired at a number of vendors about purchasing 210pcs of LG HE4 cells, shipped to Auckland, New Zealand. The most prompt and clear response came back from "Shenzhen E-fire Technology Development Co.,LTD". I had some questions regarding packaging and shipping (wanting to ensure that any cells I purchase were correctly declared to avoid situations with seizure and destruction others have had) and the reply was quick with photos of the packaging used and the shipping standards adhered to. I also asked about paypal and this was not a problem, so long as I covered the required fees. I have no issue with this as I understand margin's extremely tight in this market and the risk reduction and convenience with paypal was worth it.

The initial quote was for $963 USD including shipping. This breaks down to be about $3.75USD per cell excluding shipping. I got very similar pricing and also prompt feedback from EVVA and would not hesitate to deal with them either. My final payment was $1003USD including paypal fees.

I initially enquired on the 21st of January at 2pm. We had agreed terms and I sent payment at 4:20PM on the 22nd, she replied with the confirmation payment had been received within 2 minutes.
I received tracking info for my packages at 1am on the 23rd. Package arrived in the country on the 27th, I paid the tax owing and had the cells in my hands 10am on the 29th, less than 7 days elapsed. This is excellent any way you cut it and I couldn't be happier with the communication and process. I had some input on the declared value and this reduced the amount of sales tax I had to pay once they arrived, that was much appreciated.

The cells arrived in two small, densely packed boxes. They had a correctly filled out lithium battery declaration attached to each box and all relevant warnings. Inside the outer over-pack which was well covered with tape and in good shape are many smaller boxes, each with lithium warning label. Inside each of these are two individually boxed cells. This is actually packaged in excess of the requirements of the lithium shipping regulations and ensures that each cell is free from any rubbing damage etc. Each cell was labelled with nominal voltage and capacity as per the rules. I will grab some photos of these later tonight.

I have yet to test the cells for performance and capacity, but I have no doubt they are legitimate and recently manufactured. I will be building a pack with 200 cells (20s, 10p) so will have a number available for spares as well as some for testing. I'm going to build a fixture and run some logged cycles at various load levels with my powerlab8 to see how they will fare over time. There seems to be a lot of fear about using alibaba chinese battery sellers, however I think this is probably based older incidents with dodgy ebay stores and other 'back channel' distributors for products hard to obtain legitimately like A123 and Panasonic cells. Certainly for LG I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from the well regarded vendors on Alibaba. Buying via a third party based in EU is paying more for the same product that they are probably just buying from the chinese vendors in the first place.

Can anybody confirm that these new HE4 cells are in fact NCA chemistry?

sounds like pretty standard good battery shipping :)

will be recieving some 200 samsung 25R cells from supower soon. will post pics of box contents when it arrives.

Hey guys...

I have been selling vapes for the last few months off of http://www.wakeandvape.com and have learned a few things about the industry.

I think because of the most popular vapes now using 18650's there are a lot of companies in china now offering a wide variety of authentic 18650 cells.

Be very wary when ordering the sony vts 5 from anyone. because of the vape market this is the cell that has been rampantly cloned. The real thing is hard to get from sony, and thousands of these are being made and sold as clones. For the most part they are very high quality clones made to the same specifiations as the original.

Here is the last invoice i had from my 18650 cell provider....what do you think of these prices, are they good bad or typical?

Yeah its an interesting and as far as I am concerned a positive development the vape industry as it seems to be a lot of vapers seek out the very best cells for their mech mods as a high quality battery is important for consistent vaping taste and experience. They also put them through vigorous tests so they can weed out fakes quickly. The Sony VTC5 has gone up in price as far as I can tell since it is such a highly sort after battery for hardcore vape heads.

The upside you may ask is that there are more and more 18650 sellers out there with the aim of selling good cells.
The more folks out there selling 18650 cells the cheaper they are to buy.

yeah thats what i was trying to point out in a thread i started and it got moved to the for sale section for some weird reason. But exactly...the vape industry is huge.....is on fire....and is changing the market for 18650s where it is more possible to buy high quality cells in smaller scales (meaning you are not a car producer). I have found numerous china suppliers recently who are willing to make small scale production ebike packs...all of these pack producers have one thing in common...their main business is selling bare cells to vape stores and vape distributors....and they are looking ways to diversify to sale more cells.

I have some bad ass packs made up of some high quality cells i can take some pictures of if anyone is interetsted...came pre soldered with bms shrink wrapped etc...

Post em up! Let me know when you finish testing anD how much I owe you. BTW, your email server kicked back my last email. Not sure if it was on my side or yours.

...and those 25r prices look pretty good.

sony VTC5: 2200mAh :?: 3,3USD :?:

maybe a typo and it should be VTC4, or a FAKE

The VTC5 is still the best available high drain 18650 cell because it has the lowest voltage sag which comes into play at currents above 5-10A. Also the quality of Sony cells is outstanding. Balancing -> what is this?? :)

As far as i know the cells are legitimate.

The company seems good. I have the cells in hand plus ebike 48v 20 ah packs from both generic and panasonic 3400mahs.

I get good pricing on the cells since i made a large ebike battery purchase i guess and have good relationship with them.

Prices are different when a company deals with them...what you guys saw is a sample order. Also i recently completed a $8000 ebike pack battery order with them.

They sale big volume with minimal mark up. They usually do not deal with orders under $4000. The prices i am given there are the minimum 100 per cell order and minimum 1000 total order.

I really doubt any of these cells are fake...and they told me they were out of stock on the sonyies and therefore could only send me 10 as a sample. They said they could get me fake vt5s for 2.30 with the same tested quality of the sony. So i was offered fakes but for cheaper. :)

I got around to dissecting a pack today....made up of panasonic 3400mah cells. It has a 30amp continuous bms 40 amp bursts....low but i was looking for a high density pack. I am not a racer i am a rider. I can fit two of these packs in my luna cycles bike for a whopping 40ah 48 volt battery with a 60amp continuous discharge which is plenty for me. More on my bike here thats for sale http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66488

It looks like a well put together pack...i am not sure what technology they are using to attach cells but it looks good.

Total weight is 7 pounds for 48v 20ah (!!!!)

I dont know why anyone would wanna buy and assemble loose cells into a pack...this seems like perfect job for china and a nightmare job for a hobbyist. This is the type of thing cheap slave labour was made for. Plus i am sure they have the right kind of equipment to do the job properly without damaging cells.

My next packs are going to be made up of samsung 25r and the company is designing and testing a high amperage bms for me.

So, working through the math here, it looks like 78 cells - 13s6p? These cells were $5.80 each on your invoice, and the shipping & bank charges add about 22%, so let’s say $7 per cell, or $550 for the pack. And you say there’s a BMS? So that’s maybe $50? Presumably anything you paid above this would be for assembly - I’m curious how that breaks down.
