Samsung 25R/LG 18650HE2/ Sony VTC5 high power 18650 battery

So i just read the entire thread... my head hurts a little bit....

so i am thinking of switching from LIPO to LI-ion for my eboards... the 18650 size LI-ion should be suitable for my "under deck" enclosures

So whats the consensus are these samsung 25R the ones the best to use for my below requirements...?

What about the samsung 18650-29E. Don't think it was mentioned?

My battery factory says the Panasonic 18650 are the best...
 
so i take it the ones in the title are the best!... except panasonic which didn't get a mention

29e is a decent performer but it's still really more ideal for Pedelec (EN15194 standard) ebike industry or controllers that are 20amps or lower generally and your building in a p4 to p5 configuration pack under 48v.
When you put a load on a 29e its going to give half the amount of Ah by the time it hits 3.8v compared to a 25r, He2 or Vtc5.
I guess the panasonics weren't mentioned cos they are expensive.

Just got my battery from em3ev. It's a Samsung 25r 17ah pack. I did a video on opening the package and checking out the battery. Will try to hook up this weekend and test it out. Been really busy at work so if not this weekend, for sure next week.

it also could be a fake from the chinese. ok, the discharge test seems to confirm it is a genuine 25R, but you can never know..

Hey im ready to build my 25r pack. Plan is 14s 14p to run the bbs02.

I have a spotwelder.

What spec strips should i be lookjng for to connect the series? I found some 8mm x .3mm pure nickel strip but dont realy have a clue. Would that spec cover conecting the induvidual groups of series together?

If i can fit it i was thinking to space the batteries apart from each other with coreflute (that plastic double walled flat sheet they use with real estate signs) glue gun looks good for sticking it all together.....

Charger wise would the cycle satiator fit the bill?

Also what do i need to manage this pack and or balance these batteries?

Yes. Original plans were to go with the lightning rods kit and build 2 packs. I dunno though low stressed batteries isnt a bad thing right ?
 
at 14p you will have 35Ah, at 20C that is 700Amps of drain current
At 5C it would be 175Amps. The stress which the 25r battery will never notice.
You will be using them at 0,5C :)

So sure, they will not see any stress at all, but the question is, what will get to the cells end life faster:
The use of all those cycles - 800 or more at low stress
Or battery aging?
I think the last one for you because of the low power motor you will be using.

The optimal using of battery is when cycle count and aging of the battery is about equal.
With above you will probably looking at 50cycles per year tops?
51,8V nominal x ~30A nominal(usable from the pack) = 1454Wh
You will probably have 20Wh/km at tops during your rides,
that is 1454/20=77.7km range - this is worst case scenario, you will probably see 10-15Wh/km on avarage. In this case you will have double the range
At 50cycles you get a distance of 3885km

You probably loose 5-10% of capacity just by having the cells sitting on the bike after a year.
So in 5 years you will only have 250 cycles, probably about 10-15% degraded capacity because of cycle count and probably 30% capacity loss due to aging of the cell.
I would go with something like 29E for your config

But if you plan on building a monster bike in the nearest future, you could always use your super pack to that build.

This is false. Wher did you got the info from this aging rate?
On batteryuniverity i had read something about 1-2% per year for li-ion IF stored nearly empty (10-20%) and as close as possible to 0*C
 
Yeah, the values can be a bit different, this is just a finger point something to take into consideration and I am giving worst case scenarios.
And for what it's worth, we store our batteries differently. So at about 22°C and 40-90% SOC
I never seen people discharging their cells everyday to 10% and then put them in 0°C environment :)
 
The thing is that ive had the batteries for a month already so i have to live with it and build it now lol

I have allot of reading to do but Id like to get some nickelstrips ordered asap. I have a 1650 cyclone motor here so might be handy later on that this pack can deliver more amps if needed.

.3mm nickel strip ok or other alternatives?

But so many vendors, so which one do you guys recommended?

According the posts VTC5 is the best of all?

But my choice would be 25R less USD and almost same capacity...
