Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tires

Well I have always been happy with Schwalbe Marathon Plus BUT NOT ANTMORE. My last two 26 in have both had sidewall failures, one with only 200 KM, I also tried there Energizer line and was not impressed. For the price of 60.00 I would expect more workmanship and Quality.

I have ordered a pair of Maxxis Overdrive 26 X 1.75 Hybrid tires. Reviews seem good.

Yes I have always had high support for the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. Today I had the side wall separate from the bead wire leaving a 2 inch gap along the sidewall. This was a BRAND NEW tire that I bought online with less than 200 KM on it, no it is garbage. I have had the sidewall separate on other Marathon plus tires tires. Yes for flats they are GREAT, but the sidewall are not so GREAT. I have loved my Schwalbes in the past but the last batch I had sidewall problems.

I suggest you return it to Schwalbe or the authorized dealer you bought it from. I'm sure it's probably covered by the warranty.

So this one and the last one. No, this one and others. Over what sort of time scale? same rim?

I'm not sure why you would keep using them with such history. History that just seems to be effecting you. Are you damaging them putting them on, thus your repeated attempts?

I have been using Marathons for 5-6 years, and know how to properly install them, Usually they would wear out the tread, not the sidewalls. the failures were on different wheel rims over the last year. I am switching to Maxxis Overdrive to check them out. I am just wondering if other ES members have had problems with Schwalbe Marathon Plus

I have had nothing but good experiences with my marathon pluses on my cargo bike for 3 years now. Do you have pictures of the damage? Maybe low PSI? I would not be surprised if there were a few bad apples out of a run of 1M+ tires but would still like to learn how this happened as I always recommend this tire to friends.

I can tell you I just spent a considerable amount of time researching tires and Marathon Plus was by far the most recommended. I just put a full set on my Hybrid and I love them so far. It sounds like you got a bad one.
