This is an item that’s ready to buy as a single item and appears to be factory direct with all the protections. Looks like maybe it’s old stock but it’ll fit the bill for me if it’s for real. I’m relatively new to this, any red flags I might be missing?

If you post a link to the actual AE page I can look at that for any of the common problems I've seen with "bad" sellers, but even with "good" ones there are no guarantees.

Also remember that these days, reviews on AE are not "real"--they now conglomerate reviews for "similar" products from all over AE into the "reviews" for all products on AE, so you can't know whether any review, good or bad, is for any particular product, unless the review has pics and links and states specifically which seller, etc its' for (whcih I have never seen happen).

Since they now do that (and tell you so on some pages, though not on others), they may also be conglomerating other information on the page from other unrelated products / sellers, without telling you, so I don't believe that any info on any page on AE can be trusted anymore (I didn't trust much of it to start with).

I’m pretty sketched out by most of the encounters I’ve had so far trying to buy what are posted minimum orders only to end up going down a rabbit hole with people who could just say “no, we don’t really want to do that small of an order”.

That’s the net effect after they wasted a bunch of my time and theirs but I did manage to get a set of purple FauxDev cranks after days of aggravation.

But this is one of those things that’s “guaranteed” and has a little shopping cart and you can go right to point of sale. Appears to be the actual manufacturer and this is the only item they have set up this way.

Well, the good news is that link appears to be (can never be 100% certain) the actual WuXing company itself, rather than some 3rd party, so it's likely you would get the real thing from them. It's nice when an AB seller sets items up that way, but it's pretty rare in the stuff I've looked at so far.

Note that the ad specs include stuff like
Drop out
175mm or 145mm
Display
SW102
Wheel size
26 Inch
Brake lever
156PYD
but there aren't any options to pick which dropout width you'd get (the real term is O.L.D.), as they just have the one item listed. It appears to just be a bare motor, and this
Single package size:
17.5X12X12 cm
is small so I don't think it will include a 26" rim (or spokes), or the brake lever or display that it states it has.

Those are probably just incorrect listing info, but since they are wrong, *anything* on the page could be wrong, including the item description, pictures, etc--you could end up just getting a photo of a bare motor (doubt that would happen, but...).

Weight
4.5
but no units. Presumably kg, but the shipping says
Single gross weight:
4.000 kg
which means that one of those (or both) must be wrong. It would be *heavier* for shipping, not lighter, because of packaging.

The title itself says 500w and 750w, but there are not multiple motor options, so one of those is wrong, too. (sure, most power ratings are made up, but...there are already multiple mistakes on the page, and options shown that you can't choose, etc).

Regarding the "guarantee"...I wouldn't hold my breath about any of those for someplace I can't walk into and talk to a human about. ;) (and most of those, either).

Regarding the "too small an order", remember that Alibaba is the large-order company-to-company sales site, and Aliexpress is the sister site for individual sales of items. Many (but not all) Alibaba-hosted companies also sell on AE, as long as you can actually find their store (which may not be named anything like what the Alibaba store is).

For those that don't, you usually have to use google/etc to search AE for the product you're looking for, since AE's search basically doesn't work (you may get some results, but you won't get them all, and you won't get the best closest match for what you're after, most of the time).

I recommend a reverse image search to find AE pages with the same image as the AB site of the product you want, and if that doesn't work then try searching for the images on the AB site of the specs or some other image specific to that product pate. If that doesn't work you're stuck with text searches, and whether that finds anything depends on how they misspelled it vs the original and/or your search terms, and how good a day everybody's AIs are having when you try. :(

I 've known Wuxing as a supplier of throttles and brake levers. Never know they built motors.

Maybe they're getting rid of stock they no longer make, and are willing to sell it in single quantities at a loss, but it doesn't seem legit to me that you can get a $45 750W motor with $16 economy shipping, I've also never looked at alkibaba, since I;n not a reseller or importer and don't care to pretend to be one. It would seem the protections start at a certain minimum order amount but I don't know. Good luck with it,

It’s $50 to get it shipped in a reasonable amount of time for my purposes. Still a bargain. It does look like an older item to me compared to their other products.
You don’t have to pretend to be anything to buy some things on there in small quantities.
I don’t waste anyone’s time pretending I’m looking for samples before I go and order 20,000 units. The problem I’ve had a couple times so far is some sellers post those types of “buy it now” offers as being ready to ring up and ship and then use it as an opening to try and sell you something totally different they actually have.

I have had very good experiences with Alibaba & AliExpress returns and refunds.I bought a kit on Alibaba and the display worked but was missing menu option and I got money returned.I think the 500/750 is 500@36 volt &750@48 volt

It looked to me as though the spec sheet for the 500w motor showed it being 175mm, I’ll have to double check that. The fact that it’s specified as 26” is why I want it for more torque on my 20” I never go more than 14mph on in the woods.
As far as “protections” go I only meant that Alibaba offers some sort of intermediary role to refund my money in the event of me never receiving the item. I’m definitely not thinking there’s a warranty that means anything.
It seems like lots of people buy stuff on Alibaba that’s presented as “trade assured and guaranteed” without being a huge business that’s buying in bulk.
My sense is maybe it’s like a corporate yard sale those companies are getting rid of some older stock by way of. You can just buy it without a whole conversation and the pretense of a much larger future transaction.
Thanks for your thorough looking into it. Glad you agree the seller does appear to be Wuxing themselves.
Look at this insane scam on Ali Express. This breaks my heart because I never even knew Fucare had purple as a color choice. There’s a Fucare rep on eBay selling all sorts of stuff. Maybe stuff they won’t be around to have to cover a one year warranty on, but they deny it’s a fire sale. They haven’t ever had the grey Scorpio back in stock for months and months but they are readily selling the grey frames factory direct 🤔

I haven’t had any problems with Ali Express since I started ordering lots of stuff. I almost feel bad they send everything from different sellers without grouping things up at some regional hub as they come in because sometimes a guy will come three days in a row with $2 items I could have waited a few more days for. I’m still waiting to see how my first order from Alibaba, which was a somewhat surreal process to secure turns out.

Am I remembering correctly that that is a result from a USPS subsidy for reduced fare or free shipping from China?

Oh I don’t have any idea honestly, they probably aren’t privy to everything I have coming from different suppliers anyway. I’m just saying if they were I would think it would be reasonable to hold and amass a group of packages all arriving within a few days of each other. I’m in RI and the last distribution center they mention in their tracking info en route to me is in NJ.

Don't assume that it the "26"" on there means it was made for a 26" wheel. It's just a number that fills a field that has no relevance to the item that is being sold. (you could get lucky and it might actually mean that--but this could be a motor wound for a wheelbarrow wheel size ;) and you get *less* torque than you expect!)

Just like the model of the display that certainly doesn't come with it, etc--totally irrelevant but they field was there so they put something in it, or they copy/pasted all this stuff from some other item sale page, and forgot to remove irrelevant stuff, or they don't care.

That was my point about all of those specs--you can't actually trust that any of them mean anything, or that they are correct. :(

And good luck trying to get an actual answer if you ask them about it--I have yet to successfully get anyone to even understand my questions, much less provide useful answers. :(

The thing about 26” was stamped into the motor, not just the spec sheet, that’s what I was going by and hoping was in deed true although it seems like most motor makers don’t even bother to differentiate. I haven’t gone ahead and ordered that yet or anything. I read somewhere else (in this site) if you get over a certain weight the shipping goes way down.
