Sensorless hub on sensored controller?

Hi,
Can i make my sensorless hubmotor run on a sensored controller? i'ved only got it to work with another sensord motor that i wierd in parallel with the sensorless one(just to test). I guess the controller recives the right signals from the hallsensors, and thats why it works that way.

Can i maby trick the hallsensors, so the hub can spinn unplugged?

Yes, by making it a sensored hubmotor, adding halls to it. There are a number of threads on adding halls to a motor, if you do a search for that in the titles. Then you can adapt what they did to add them to yours. It's quite possible the slots for them are already there in the stator of yours, if it's a hubmotor.

Not unless you build a board to convert the phase signals to hall signals. There used to be such boards built into "sensorless" controllers for that purpose, years ago, but I don't know anywhere to get them now.

AFAICR these used op-amps (and/or comparators) to convert the high phase voltages down to low hall-level voltages, and shape the signals into pulses.

It's probably cheaper and easier to just get a sensorless controller.

No easy way, but some controllers will run sensored or sensorless.

Thanks for the answers! My hubmotor is old and cheap so i dont think i will mount some hall to it, but good to know it's and option.

If i have a controller that can run both on sensored or sensorless, do i need to manully spinn the motor first to get its started?

No. The dual mode controllers are normally very good at starting motors.

Very early sensorless may actually require pedal first. A smoother start is always had if you just start the wheel rolling forward by an inch as you apply throttle, with any sensorless controller. It prevents attempts to start in reverse, and really prevents you from letting the wheel roll back inadvertently as you start up.
