Sometimes I love having a lathe! I bought a mini lathe at harbor freight a couple years ago to go with my mini-mill. I wanted to swap out the freewheel on my magic pie and the gold standard of bike tools (park) didn't have a large enough hole for the axle. I know that ebikes sells one that has a 3/4 drive hole in it, but I opted to pick up an $8 park and toss it in my lathe. Two minutes later...

I didn't bother with cutting oil - all I did was chuck in a bit on my drill chuck and ran it through the freewheel tool at low speed. It's a very safe operation on a lathe. I wouldn't want to try it on a drill press.

I feel ya brother. I was offered a week of passion by my wife for my 40th or a lathe for the shed.

OMFG LOL!! That was a good one

Does a Craftsman shop smith in Drill Press mode count?

I did the same thing with my SS lots of cutting oil and a Uni-Bit thath goes up to 7/8 by Irwin Frome home depot.

Cut through it like butter!

This was one with Titanium coated bit and it cut the park tool with surprising ease. 8)

It's a great idea for sure! I wouldn't try it with a hand drill though.

I did it by hand with a dremel and a tungsten carbide bit in about 5 mins. I concede mine doesn't look quit as pretty as yours, it looks a bit like a badly packed kebab. Just like all the other holes that I have widened with my bit

Seriously though, I am continually amazed at what you can do with a dremel and a tungsten bit (if you aren't too fussy about a "finish").

You should have gone missing for a week then come back talking about what a passionate time you had with the lathe and asked her when she was going to move into the shed. :D

Or I declare my undying love for my lathe and tell her it fulfils me in ways she never can, so when is she moving out? (I mean, seriously, all I have to do to turn the lathe on is to flick a lever...)

God, I hope she never reads this. She'd probably get a court order cutting the lathe in half just to spite me. Just joking honey!

Oh dear, we appear to have moved away from the OP's topic here. Er, yes, great idea, I shall order one from fleabay and modify said item on my lathe for carrying out the intended function. There, that should keep the mods off my back.

I don't know, with a woman you just prod randomly at the button right? Four fingers is foreplay and all that right? Q) How do you get a woman to orgasm? A) Who cares?.....

There, that should keep the mods off my back.

Oops - good point, I always forget I am not in the Biker Bar anymore... It is so hard with "virtual" space. In the real world I only ever frequent "biker bars", so I never have to worry about the fact that I lack any redeeming features and that I belong in a war somewhere.... I better slither back.....

Sorry OP for going totally OT in my OT
