Solid performing Lipos

I just wanted to share with everyone the lipos I've been using for over a year now. I've read in the posts that a lot of e-bike enthusiasts use Turnigy lipos. I don't use Turnigy lipos. Instead, I have been using Haiyinstore lipos. My lipo usage actually started in RC airplanes in 2003. Since then, I've looked for the best lipos for the money, going through many different brands. RC airplanes require high current discharge, up to 100amps. I use high current motors in my RC planes that need a lot of amps for speed.

After years of trying out different brands, from Zippys, Turnigys, Thunder Power, G-Force and Gen Aces, I've settled on HaiyinStore lipos. My HaiyinStore lipos are by far the best performer in my RC planes. It's the best bang for the buck. Nothing comes close for the price and performance.

I purchased my Haiyinstore lipos in April of 2012 for my e-bike. Since then, I've put over 350 cycles in them. My ebike uses a 48v, 1000w front hub motor. The peak amp draw is about 22 amps at full throttle, tested on my watt meter. I commute to work 15 miles each way, total 30 miles round trip. I carry 4 packs of 12s lipos, giving me a total of 20 amps, 5 amps each pack. At work, I charge my packs for the ride home. I didn't start riding to work everyday until 2 months into getting my e-bike, so the first couple of months were only about 20 trips to the office on my e-bike. Conservatively, I put the lipos through 350+ cycles.

One year later, my Haiyinstore lipos are rock solid. I estimate about 90% performance from brand new. These lipos are rated at 20-30c and are still going strong. I am excited to see how many more cycles these batteries will give me. If I get 2 years of riding out of them, I will be ecstatic. I'm already excited to see the lipos have made its one year mark.

I have to say the Haiyinstore lipos rarely ever need balancing. Out of the 1 year of use, I've balanced them less than once every 2 months. The voltage in each cell of the 4s lipo are all within .03 volts every time I use them. I'm just amazed at how well they hold up. Looking forward to another solid year with them.

Nice! sounds like you have some quality lipo, im seeing much the same with turnigy but youve actually seen this perform under full C rating. What do you pay per module and of what size? incl shipping and everything from the HK Hong Kong warehouse i pay $300 for 10x 4S 5Ah

The ones I buy are the hard case RC car lipos at $32 each, 4S, 5000mah. Haiyinstore has a warehouse in Nevada so you get them within 3 days. I live in Los Angeles. Shipping is about $15. Originally, I paid $28 when there was a nice sale going on and I purchased 12x of them. Got them in 3 days. Gotta love that!!!

I'd be curious to know what the reject-rate is. (how many come with dud- (or slacker) cells).
- Of the cells you purchased, how many were within a reasonable balance at the start?
- Did you happen to plot any discharge/charge curves with the packs?
- Do you have any slacker-cells in your current pack? (doesn't sound like it)

I am happy with my Turnigy pack, but I was not happy about the time and energy I spent weeding out the packs w/ weak cells. I'd like to find a higher quality-controlled battery.

I honestly didn't do the whole graph and testing thing in the beginning. All the lipos I received have been great. Not one bad cell and every single one that I own, 15 packs in all, have performed solidly. I checked each cell when I got them in, ran them on my e-bike from day one, and haven't looked back since. I have to be honest though, my buddy did receive a pack that had bad cells. However, he did get replacements after notifying Haiyinstore and they were replaced right away. Customer service is at least existent and it helps they're over in Nevada.

I'm sure there will be duds coming out of Haiyinstore from time to time. No company can deliver a product and guarantee 100% it will always work. That's why you have customer service, which helps when they're local.

That's what my RC buddy told me, but he couldn't confirm. He showed me something that said the cells came from the same place, then found something else that it didn't. I can't confirm that. At first, he thought Hobbyking owned Haiyinstore, but we both read something somewhere that it wasn't the case. I can't be certain if the cells that Turnigy and Haiyinstore uses are the same. What I do know for certain that the Turnigy lipos at the RC airfield do not perform the same over time as the Haiyinstore ones. The Turnigy Nanotech lipos, their top brand, gets hot at 100amps current draw compared to the Haiyinstore lipos, under the same flying conditions.

the real question is who skims the cream, who gets the milk & who mops up the crud left at the bottom.

well the last one i know is batteryspace.
they constantly run ads canvasing for factory end runs.

Haiyinstore.com is where you get the lipos. As far as I know, you can only get them online. Just make sure you order from the US, Nevada based warehouse. My buddy didn't check and he ordered from the China warehouse by mistake. Had to wait a couple of weeks for them rather than the 3 days I did.

Oh, you want the cells. Well, that I don't know. I only buy the lipos already assembled.

I forget the thread, but a member here ordered some batteries from hobbyking once and the box was from herewin/haiyin.
Another person has been told to shut up about this before..
There was a point where the turnigy and haiyin/herewin logos looked very similar. Wish i would have taken a screenshot.
You'll also notice that the turnigy and herewin offerings look similar, especially the hardcases.

I wish i had some visible proof. If you're doubtful, you could search.

To me, doesn't matter where the lipos come from. I only care how they perform. And the bottom line is the Haiyinstore lipos for now are my batteries of choice.

I found it much easier to have success with A123m1 cells but it required soldering skills.

That is tough too because the rc lipo I have seen taken apart looked like a 7 year old that was too tired soldered the cells together.

Well, if you want to dig through my endless posts over at RCU about other lipo brands over the last 10 years, you're more than welcome. I don't give praise to easily to any brand unless they perform well. I've learned there are many brands out there that are good on day 1. I want to know if they're still good on day 101. You didn't see me giving praise to Haiyin lipos April of 2012. I waited 1 year to see how they would hold up.

A lot of RC guys say a certain brand is awesome, but they're all saying it after 10 cycles. I always respond, "let me know after 100 cycles."

RC lipos exist for people who want lipos for cheap that perform well. A123 batteries cost more and have a lower discharge rate. There is no battery technology out there that performs better for the price point. 30c discharge rate at the price you're paying? RC lipos are the only ones. Other lithium batteries, the newer lithium chemistry cells out there, cost 50% more. Yes, they're not flammable, weigh less, and give you more cycles. But you're paying for it.

Just fyi, I solder all the time.

Well, I can take a screenshot of the invoice, which dates back to last year. And I can take a pic of the lipos I have, which are sitting on my desk next to me right now. I can also send a pic of my ebike.

Not all lithium cells are flammable. They're lithium-(something) and some do not flame up. It depends on the chemistry.

I just rode out using A123m1 cells that were made in 2006, came out of Dewalt packs then were used for RC racing.

They were a soldered up mess when I got them and took them apart and soldered them into an ebike pack.

They are on their 3rd life.

For cheap?? Do the math reg cycles and you will see what is cheaper on the long run and this is if your are lucky not to burn your bike or even worse, a house with your mother in it. I agree on the weight and simpleness in using such storage but what a mess. Most users take packs off to charge them with RC chargers, web of wire just asks for an accident.
And where on a bike you would need 50 or even 30C? Will you be pulling 300A constant out of your 10AH pack?
