Staples and The Story Of My Life

Congrats Marty! How I love the smell of entrepreneurs in the morning...

Staples have arrived!

They don't look as nice as Dou-Fast staples. White paint is a bit grey. Put a bunch in my old electric carpet tacker gun. Regitar RE5418. They shoot no problem.

Marty's primitive depth gauge - If staples go too deep? Get a longer lighter gauge extension cord. If staples don't go deep enough? Get a shorter 12 Gauge extension cord.

Will take a box of 5000 staples to the photography guy. Will ask him to take a picture something like this:
5400_series_lg.jpg
Item number on boxes is ADF5416SSD I don't know what the ADF stands for? They say Made in USA on a little flag sticker.

My new staples are supposed to be stainless steel. Magnet sticks to them. Magnet also sticks to my old stainless steel Dou-Fast staples. I know that a magnet sticks to some grades of stainless steel.

Want to test the stainless steel. How can I recreate years of outside weather exposure to see if the metal rusts?

Hot salt spray for accelerated corrosion. Did you get a 40 foot semi load?

Hot salt spray - OK
Salt spray test
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_spray_test
The apparatus for testing consists of a closed testing chamber, where a salted solution (mainly, a solution of 5%sodium chloride) is atomized by means of a nozzle.
How to measure 5% salt in a spray bottle? Mix salt with hot water. How much salt?
HD_6953_L.jpg

I would say: (stolen from the internet)

1
Measure 5.0 grams, or 0.18 ounces, of table salt on a balance. Then, transfer the salt to a 4-ounce or larger container.

2
Measure 95 mL of distilled water using a 100-mL graduated cylinder, or 3.2 fluid ounces using a an 8-ounce measuring cup. Add the water to the container with the salt.

3
Cap the container with the salt solution and shake it until all of the salt has dissolved. The solution contains 5.0 grams of salt with a total solution mass of 100 grams. Therefore, weight percent = (5 grams) / (100 grams) * 100 = 5.0 percent salt.

Normal grades of stainless still rust. You really do want Monel if you don't want it to be staining ugly rust drips after a year or two.

Still offered for some stapler sizes:

Happy to say that I have been selling boxes of staples for $30 a box plus shipping. Everybody seems to like PayPal.
Finally got a picture. Background is white paper. Lighting is the sun. Camera is a phone.

Next will experiment with a long term add on eBay. Not sure what the cost will be?

Monel was a option when I had these staples made. Cost was higher. Might look into monel in the future.

Staple sales have been steady. Most sales have been on the East Coast of the United States. Hoping sales will increase when the weather gets warmer.

Just got a inquiry from a guy in South Africa. I can tell that he don't type English so good. First I am not sure if he wants to buy staplers or staples? Then he asks for 220 to 300 pieces. I tell him that there are 5000 staples in a box. Now he wants 220 boxes. He tells me to get a quote on shipping from a shipping company that he recommends. Look at the truck he made with text symbols!

Looks like a real shipping company logo

Think that the next step of the scam will be when South Africa Guy asks me to to wire a bank transfer to the shipping company. After that South Africa Guy will pay for staples and shipping with a stolen or fake credit card. I will then tell South Africa Guy to get a real job and stop trying to scam people.

Hi Marty: I sent you a PM inquiring about these staples. I'm not sure if you receive private messages but I was wondering if these are still available and how I would go about ordering. Did you ever put an ad on Ebay? Thanks

Yes still have a boat load of staples. $30 per box of 5000 staples. Shipping is whatever it is. Need to know how many boxes you would like and where you are.

No never put staples on eBay. I should do that, it would simplify the buying process.

I gave a few boxes to a professional photographer. Sure that they are still sitting on a shelf in his photography studio. Same as everyone else he is busy.

Think that United States Postal Service has the lowest prices on shipping.

Got free boxes.
Priority Mail® Regional Rate Box A
Top Loading: 10-1/8" x 7-1/8" x 5"

My scale is not very accurate. Here are weights as measured by scale at the post office.
1 box of staples. 2 pounds, 3.90 ounces
2 boxes of staples. 3 pounds, 9.60 ounces
Please note that these weights include Regional Rate Box A and some newspapers for packing.

Shipping cost for both 1 box of staples and 2 boxes of staples was $5.44
Cost is determined by what region in the United States staples are being shipped to.

This size shipping box can hold up to 6 boxes of staples.

Need to pay on line for Priority Mail Regional Rate. Don't see any pay cash options on the https://www.usps.com/ web site. Next step is to figure out Free Package Pickup. Mail man/woman will pick up boxes at my house. I need a water proof container or something that I can leave outside so the packages don't get wet from rain or snow. Plastic garbage bag?

Photography guy finally took pictures! He is good with Photoshop, camera's lighting and stuff. Which color background do you like?

I like the 1st one. Reading this thread I was thinking (need some light in the pic on your web site).

Are these staples certified child labor free ? Did they pass a rust test ?

Glad you found something that works. Funny what necessity will drive one to do.

Looked at the web site of the company that made the staples. I see no pictures of people so the people who work there could be children? These are good staples made with excellent workmanship. Or workchildship?

Never did the salt spray test. It is on my list of things to do. Wondering if I could find some children to do this for me?

Update on Marty's Staple Company. Sold the boat load of staples. Got a few boxes left for myself. If I calculate correctly? they should till the end of my life. Then the "Staples and The Story Of My Life" will be over.

Now what about all the people who bought all my staples? They were all in the United States. Boat builders all up and down the east cost and a few on the west cost. Window manufactures in the cold states. Modular home builders. Carpet layers everywhere. Soffit and trim coil people like myself. Upholsterers, happy home owners and more staple shooting people that I can't remember. Do I care if all these people have a supplier for stainless steel staples? YES I care, just as I hate rusting staples.

Note that I got no complaints :D

Lifetime of help and motivation by telephone and email by Marty the king of DUO-FAST 5400 series Stainless Steel Staples. Includes information on who makes these staples.

Anyone looking for DUO-FAST 5400 series Stainless Steel Staples? Don't despair! I found a different supplier of the same 5416-SSD Staples I was selling. Same but not with crowns painted white. I bought a box just to look at them. Picture a guy with a telephone in a dusty warehouse. I asked him if he would like me to make a link to his business on the internet? He said "No I have enough customers". If anyone wants to buy some staples? Give me a call or a email and I will tell you where to go for these staples. If you are not seeing a phone number or email address? You should work on your investigative skills.

Thanks for the update Marty! Did a quick search, it still looks like you have a unique product. Did it just get old filling boxes and shipping?

I sell an eBay item for "fun" that only sells for $12, and I groan some days when there are a bunch of orders to fill. Non creative work really drains me...

Got some private messages asking about my staple business. To share my thoughts about staples and my life, Put answers to questions here:

Search the internet for series 5400 stainless steel staples.
Using Google this is number 2 http://stainlesssteelstaple.com/
This is number 7 https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46902
Both are on the first page of Google. That is how I advertise and how I think people find my phone number to call me and buy staples.

Ebay would eliminate talking on the phone and I think eBay would do all the paperwork. I have a credit/debit merchant machine that hooks to the phone line. Have had it for many years.

Really don't know if I could have made more sales because I never tried to. For a better answer ask the DUO-FAST company how many monel and stainless staples they sold before they stopped making them. Obviously not enough to make it worth it for them.

As to additional sizes. Think carpet layers mostly use 9/16". Upholsterers might want 3/8"? My 1/2" staples are good for most everyone. If I ever bought more? I would forget about heads painted white. When choosing a color for my exterior aluminum trim projects, I have become prejudice. I don't like white. In the world of vinyl siding and aluminum trim there are many wonderful colors.

Today is a sad day with Staples and The Story Of My Life. Staple gun broke. Regitar RE5418. Using it indoors. Bathroom remodel. It worked perfectly a few days ago. Been plugged in sitting on a table. Today no noise. No pop. No nothing.

Did a autopsy. Cord is OK. Tested for 110V AC. Tested switch with Ohm meter. Switch has 3 terminals. Think its called SPDT. Switch is good. There are 2 wires going to the pop, pop, plunger thing. Connected voltmeter the 2 wires. Activate trigger switch. Nothing. Tested for AC and DC. Nothing, voltmeter reads 0. My guess is the part that is soldered to the wires is bad. It is potted and filled with electronic mysteries. See pictures 05_20250225_151842.jpg and 06_20250225_152017.jpg

I give up :( Anyone want to buy a broke Regitar RE5418 Electric Tacker? Bet ya Amberwolf could fix it.

Now for a very, very, very, very, very, very, important question. Since I think I need to buy a new carpet layers staple gun. Why am I not seeing a cordless battery powered carpet layers staple gun? Looked all over the internet. Really, I did. This project started in 2013. In the last 12 years just about every staple gun, nail gun, and bicycle is now powered by batteries. I need to drag extension cords all over planet earth like I need to be electrocuted.

These staple guns are mostly used by carpet layers. Also called Ruggers. Picture two guys with a extra long van, installing carpets real fast because they are being paid by the square foot. Am I the only one who hates extension cords? Check out my cordless hammer.
