Hi,

After replacing the rear rim that comes with the stealth with something that is less likely to buckle and crack.

OPTION 1 = MTB
  • Rim = http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/odyssey-hazard-lite-24-rim/rp-prod51028
  • Spokes = ? (type, length, gauge etc)
  • Tyre = Can use existing Dura Razorback
  • Pros = Assume stronger then original stealth rim
  • Cons = May not be as strong as MX, still use bike type which wear much quicker ($$$) compred to MX

OPTION 2 - MX
  • Rim = http://www.prowheelracing.com/yamaha-play-bike-front-rim-1-40-x-19-silver/
  • Spokes = ? (type, length, gauge etc)
  • Tyre = http://www.shinkotireusa.com/tire/sr-241-series
  • Pros = Assume stronger then MTB options, harder wearing tyre, less prone to punctures
  • Cons = Heavier

For those who have done it, what are the thoughts between MX / MTB? Are there any better options I should consider?

Also if anyone can fill in details with what else is needed (and links where to buy) would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The first one was cracked through the join in the rim and slightly buckled. Was first noticed about 200km (10 rides?) into the bike and was then replaced about 350km.

The second one has another crack starting and a buckled section after only two rides (one ride was on flat road to break in new motor).

I am not an extreme rider, mainly do cross country style stuff with some downhill thrown in if it is part of the course.... but I am not a pavement city commuter on it either.

Guessing a few others have had similar issues with rims and quite a few threads / posts with people replacing wheel setups. I have searched everywhere for the specific information requested about but struggling to find.

Any wisdom for me miro? :D

I use Alexrims on all my ebikes, but I am mostly asphalt commuter.
Just use what expensive DH bikes use. DHill bikes use the most durable rims I would say - there are for DOWN HILL riding.
Expensive frames comes with expensive rims
But seriously rims problems on Stealth Bombers, really?
What brands Stealth uses, DT Swiss, Mavic ???
