They will go away alright. As soon as the power balance ticks over, there will be a sudden correction to demolish and erase all the current damage. Every single thing that was a priority for the scoundrels will be on the chopping block.
I'm looking forward to civil rights and the rule of law getting a major boost compared to before the disaster. We could get some reparations out of the deal that weren't even in the Overton window before.

The entire media complex and government is a case of Do as say don't do as I do. It's good propaganda and it's worked as the masses go out of their way to obey every little law. But some people simply do what's practical and honest, for themselves, and not what the government says is honest. Did you know that nearly every revolution in history was triggered by taxes? The American revolution came about because of inordinate British taxes. The government calls it "cheating" when people avoid taxes through various workarounds but the only ones getting cheated is them and their pay masters the corporations.
At least I believe that's what offgrid was referring to.

I don't think it is. Speaking strictly, that might be true, but the problems are not going to stop - it's not "winding down" in that sense.
The US tax payer will foot the bill for all the waste caused going forward from this misadventure and that's certainly an added expense. As well, the uncertainty caused and the uncertainty to come will also continue adding substantial costs that were not necessary. The uncertainty will likely have the greatest part of the impact.
So many people seem to think (or unconsciously presume) that there is so much money/resource/food/water around that the only reason those people did not get what they wanted is just that the "right" people were not in place to make the choice they wanted.
Why, it's just a matter of backing the person who agrees with them, and it's so unfair that those "other" people got to call the shots and have things the way they wanted! About time this got fixed!
This is not true, and while the connection with the consequences (which have certainly not all manifested yet) may not be obvious to some due to a gap in time (and attention), these consequences are most certainly still to come, and in much greater degree than they have shown up to date - we have been running on stored money, stored trust, stored resources.
It is not true that the world, and the US in particular, are so rich that we can just do anything we want anytime we want, if we just had the will and the resolve to push aside the doubters.

Sadly even Americans who are too poor to pay taxes take this beating as well. Maybe worse than those who do pay taxes, but with less ability to endure it. It looks like the worst inflation is in things that can not be opted out of or deferred, like food.

I think of it more as the current train speeding up in velocity, so now the screams blend together in a way that makes the problem of counting each one moot, but I'm not sure if I'm grateful for it...

Trump will not allow this. When he is out of office, he does not have protection from many of the criminal charges against him - he did not, for instance, hoard classified documents in Florida while he was President, and the Supreme Court ruling of immunity for the President does not apply.
The threat to him is existential - he cannot personally tolerate accepting that he was wrong, or permit anyone else to punish him.
If you try to evaluate him in terms of political philosophies you will have trouble making sense of him, but if you evaluate his entire history in terms of only thinking of what benefits him, you will find a close fit with his actions, before and since entering politics.
He does not rely on agreements because he knows himself that he will break any agreement as soon as he perceives an advantage to him. He feels no shame about this - rather he considers this to be evidence that he is smarter than you and a "better business man" than you are. You didn't stop him, he won - he is a smarter business man than you.
So he only "trusts' when he has such an advantage that he can dictate terms. For this reason, all the superior options that can come from agreements and mutual trust are closed to him (and us).
He knows he'll screw you. So he can never trust that you won't screw him. And he can't be educated on this point.
The U.S. mid-term elections are a very frightening occurrence for him, and thus a very frightening occurrence for all of us. If the houses of Congress flip a little, he will be stopped in much of his agenda (regardless if whether the "other" agenda works out or not - he does not care about that, even if you do).
If the houses of Congress flip a lot, he will be impeached, socially and psychologically ruined, and subject to imprisonment and other humiliation.
He cannot tolerate any chance of Congress flipping, and he will not go quietly. It's nothing to do with Republican values, nothing at all - it's entirely down to this particular narcissistic psychopath. He feels fear. He does not feel shame.
And the people on his coat-tails pursuing Project 2025 will also not tolerate this - so much the worse if change is the will of the majority. That means they will lose their only chance of pushing their agenda. You can expect the dirtiest of tricks for this election, and saying "they do it too!" will not matter, as "they" are not in power.

You could completely change the partisan makeup of congress and impeach Trump, but even if that happened, nothing meaningful would change within the lives of the average American for the better. The problems in this country are systemic.
The tariffs, aside from being expensive, were annoying. I needed a custom aluminum plate for my front suspension in order to mount my front hub motors to my quad, and customs delayed it for about a month. I already had my vacation from work set aside anticipating the arrival of this component so I could work on my vehicle. First, FedEx didn't contact me about the extra money owed on the piece, and then they shipped it back to the sender. I repeatedly tried to get ahold of FedEx to sort this out and find out how to pay them and they never gave me any information because here in the USA I couldn't contact an actual person with the phone numbers/emails provided on their website, only automated chatbots. I easily spent 3 hours or more trying to sort this out, to no avail. After the piece was returned to the sender, the sender in his country was able to get ahold of an actual person, and I had to pay him the extra money that customs wanted, so that he could pay customs on my behalf, before the part could be sent. In the end, I lost the chance to make progress on my project with the limited free time allotted, I had to wait an extra month to get the part, and had to eat the fees to originally ship the item to me.
Without the tariff BS, I'd have gotten my quad usable as a daily months ago. I'd have been able to find problems I need to address earlier and use the time off I had to correct them. Instead, my vacation was wasted and I now have to make piecemeal progress while I can when work isn't eating up all my time. While the vehicle runs, it is not yet usable as a daily. Maybe this week.

Them fvckers were RE-LENT-LESS a few weeks ago about an engine guard I bought from Motea for my DesertX way back in November. Multiple text messages and emails, then phone calls about the duty charges they paid for. I sent them a check just to get them off my ass. And honestly, even at $300 it's a pretty nice engine guard.

You can try asking sellers for DDP shipping (incoterm, delivered duty paid) and then theoretically the shipping company handles it... I haven't been obliterated by thousands of dollars in tariffs on any shipments yet
