Has anyone here heard of this issue with the TDCM torque sensing bottom bracket? It is a bit hard to describe but there is a clicking or knocking that is noticeable with each pedal stroke. I am no master mechanic, but I have worked on bikes a fair bit and I have double checked my BB install. It seems there is a little play in the BB that I can't get out. The spindle seems to travel directly in and out about 1mm.

Any thoughts?

Thanks as always.

Probably either one of the sealed bearings is bad, or the endcaps are not fully down onto the spindle/sensor unit (and possibly lockrings not tight).

I'd recommend looking at the TDCM install manual on the grin site
https://www.ebikes.ca/documents/TDCMGuide.pdf
and verify the installation first. If you take the TDCM out you can also check the bearing units individually for smooth rotation.

i'll look into that. I had a wrench at my LBS look at it and he thought the bearings might be bad. That is a bit surprising considering the unit was new about 6 months ago. I will see if I can get new bearings and do the install myself.

Thanks!!

Before contemplating surgery, check that the motor is properly tightened in the frame and that the noise isn't coming from the pedals.

:?

If you're referring to the OP of this thread (rather than the problem of the new poster to the thread):

The TDCM *is* the pedals...or at least, it is the BB shaft, bearings, etc., that the pedals are attached to. It's a torque-sensing BB, available from Grin Tech and other places, used (in Grin's case, at least) to control motor systems.

Without knowing anything else about the setup of the new poster to the thread, who knows what their problem might be. ;)
