Testing the Crystalyte HT and HS motor

Hey All !


I am building a Full Suspension with a Crystalyte HT or HS Hub motor.

I have 10 pcs of HT/HS motors for building ebikes for friends and other people so I am doing some tests, I have a few 18 fet sensored controllers and a few 12 fet sensorless controllers.
Since the new crystalyte HT/HS version has no hall sensors I first tried the HS version with the 12 fet sensorless controller with 24s Lipo ( 100v of the charger ) at 30 amp I think because I didn't programm the controller yet.

Well the start up is just fine, I have hall sensors ready to install inside a Hub but the HS just spins around from a dead stop, only the very first moment there is a small delay, but that is so small I don't care.
But at around 50 km/h there is some timing error ? It feels like a bad connections but it is something else. Hmm while I am typing this, I do remember something about a RPM limit in the Lyen 12 fet controller ?

Tomorrow I will install the HT version and see what happen, then later I will install some hall sensors in a HS/HT motor and install a 18 fet controller, the 12 fet can only have 50 amp.

But I must say what is full suspension a great MTB, much better with bumbs and off road forrest tracks even with a 7 kg HUb motor

about the stuttering at 50km/h I still don't know what the problem is, at free running the wheel goes above 100km/h, so no speedlimit at the controller I guess ?

I have a very similar setup only at 66v with the same Lyen controller. I can get 42mph easily on the flat but have noticed slight mistimings on my HS3540, nowhere near as bad as the 9C 2807 motor I tried with Lyens sensorless controller.... but it does hit at around 35mph. I find pulling back off the throttle then ramming it full again fixes the stutters a bit.

Today I tried the HS with 66 volt lipo, that was better but still some timing errors, if I lift the wheel there is no stuttering at all.
If I want to ride without any stutter than I should install some hall sensors ? And use a Hall sensor controller ?

With no load, you will not notice a timing error like you will with a load. I would think there is some combination of load, power and controller which will eliminate the stutter, but I am waiting for the experts to figure it out. I suspect a 50kg person on the flat at 30km will always be much smoother than a 100kg person on a 10% grade at WOT?

The following video link was done back in Feb 2011, it was a very cold winter. It was equipped with Crystalyte HS 3540 with Crystalyte 72v 40amp sesnorless controller, and two 37v lipo running at 72v:

I never had any problem, it hit at 63km/h, I could have hit 70km/h, but I went out road very fast. You may want to switch a differ controller to see if you have the same bottom-neck.
