Hey all,

I ended up getting another Swhinn Chopper, I just couldn't resist haha. I'll end up selling my other one and fix this up:

Going tonight to go pick it up. I'll strip off the stickers and try to make it as clean as possible. I am still in the market for a rear hub motor that would match in perfectly with the rear spacing of the forks. The previous hub motor I bought was nice, but the hub was too thin and with a huge stack of spacers it didn't look right.

I still have my 48v front wheel kit but in the back of my mind I am still insistant that it will end up pulling the welds off the front forks :(

I don't know if this helps you where you live, but readers who have an interest in this type of bike might find the following interesting. I stumbled over this source of new electric chopper bikes while searching for a chopper bicycle tail light. http://www.gasbike.net/chopper_bike.html More searching on that bike, found youtube videos and other vendors selling the same bike with different decals.Looks to be SLA for the price.Looks larger than the Schwinn.

Oh thanks for that information. The only issue with that particular kit is that they use a 24" rear wheel. I was currently using a 20".

I found a supplier in China that is willing to make a 20" 48v 500w rear wheel kit which has the correct 165-170mm spacings to fit in perfectly, they even use a single speed freewheel which will connect up without any issues.
The only problem is postage for the complete wheel is double the price of the kit:
shaft length of motor:235mm, fork size 170mm
cable length:680mm

I may just end up going for it in the end as it will be a perfect fit then and I can still ride the bike as a normal bike without too much worries. I swapped the pedals on the chopper to cleat pedals from my road bike haha. It was hilarious.

This project is going to be quick. The main idea is to get it up and going and go from there with the "finishing touches". I'm going to completely strip my old bike and mix and match bits onto the frame that you see above. Eventually that frame above will get powdercoated in satin black and i'll swap over the handle bars and forks/brakes etc from the other bike.

Hopefully this week I can get a set of 3x 12ah SLA batteries and i'm in the works of sourcing out a 24v controller, throttle and charger to suit.

- I'll be using the front hub motor that i've had for all this time

- In the process I will build some torque arms off the shape of the drop outs, i'll use torque arm washers on the inside for a bit of extra protection too.

I know 24v isn't going to be much but better than nothing I say :)

Pics will be updated rather quickly don't worry.

There are stickers under the clear coat that I wanted to remove but wasn't sure the best way of going about it. I was looking at getting a matt finish so I am not too fussed, I just want to make sure I only sand just enough to peel the sticker off. If I remember correctly they would have painted the frame, stuck stickers on then applied clear coat over it?

I will install your hub motor into the rear wheel just like I did my schwinn chopper if you want
I still have new 12 gauge spokes and my spoke threader and I will do it for a fair price too
