The real reason for torque arms

Pre-flight inspections, ridiculously expensive nuts, special washers, etc. can all be avoided with proper clamping dropouts or clamping torque arms. I run literally over 100 times the European and Australian power limit through my hubmotor, and only have the factory nut on one side, which is there only to protect my shins in case I bump against the protruding axle. I treat my ebike like a car, and never check the motor or wheel's connection to the bike. The motor physically cannot self-separate from the bike or spinout the axle in the dropouts. Since it's steel-on-steel if it gets loose in the least, it gives off warning squeaks reminding me to check the tightness of the clamping bolts that seem to need attention once a year or 2.

Don't forget about mischievous vandals who loosen nuts. Its been reported here on E-S.

I hate to use loctite cause even the blue stuff makes removing the wheel tough but if this happens again I will. The green loctite can be applied after the nuts are set, and holds quite well but is still removable without heat.

Not trying to irk the ire of the self-imposed professional mechanics but i rely on this stuff for all types of fasteners that I intend to take apart again including motor axle nutsth.jpg

The so-called developed world is certainly less civilized in a lot of ways than the developing world. Despite a tiny % of the law enforcement budget and manpower per capita that kind of thing would be unthinkable here. Did I mention 0% of GDP spent on a military, so no terrorism worries either? While it's certainly not perfect, being 1km high in the tropics has some real advantages.
