Correct, but lithium metal just means nothing except the lithium ions move to something directly on the foil without any alloying or intercalation and gets deposited as lithium metal.

I might be looking too deep into this though, but I'd be really surprised if they're using a lithium foil since it's just so annoying to deal with in manufacturing.

All I was doing was pointing to a page that had the only available answer to your question…insufficient as it is. 🙂
 
Got told by one of my suppliers that EVE is no longer producing the 58E. Seems odd, cause as far as I know that was there highest capacity cell currently available. Anyone know what the roadmap for EVE cells looks like and why they don't have a 6000+mAh cell out yet?
 
Is Linkdata 65P still the watt hours per kg champion in 21700 land?
At 1A the BAK 65E delivers a tiny bit more energy than the Amprius SA112 which delivers a tiny bit more energy than the Linkdata 65P. You’d never notice the difference between any of them In use.

At 5A and 10A the BAK 65E and Linkdata 65P are tied and deliver noticeably more energy than the Amprius SA112.

I think Linkdatas are the ticket since a 2P pack will easily feed 20A-40A to an ebike motor..
Amazing that we can get a 48v ~12ah pack out of just under 4lbs worth of cells... 15 years ago, that sort of battery looked like this & easily 10lbs

The Donut saga continues with an interesting update. Donut contacted Intertek testing and gave them two cells to take apart and verify their bipolar nature. Unfortunately they only tested static voltage before disassembly with no cycling or capacity test, and the report contains this statement:

"Intertek have not verified that the DUT is a functioning battery cell which can be
electrically discharged/charged"

I also found this to be odd regarding pinholes in each cell:

"According to information provided by Donut
Lab, the holes observed in the pouch in Figure 4 and Figure 7 are introduced intentionally
during the manufacturing process and not considered to be the result of mechanical damage or
cell failure."

Yea, interesting tidbit there. 😂
IMO since they can operate (at least for a while) without being sealed they added the holes to prevent visual puffing from the excess gas.
 
Finally density of "Gen 1" cell, actually a Gen 1.5 cell different than previously tested Gen 1:

Cell weight and dimensions were measured, and capacity was determined at an ambient temperature of +25 °C within
the recommended voltage range using a 0.1C discharge rate. The measured gravimetric energy density was
409.3 Wh/kg, while the measured volumetric energy density was 804.7 Wh/L.


 
Lab claim cycle cell 9300 time at 1C full discharge/charge rate.
Very low capacity low
