Tire pressure! At what psi are you cruising?

I use same tire 2.5" hookworm great tire 8,000 miles on them. I use a 29" rim and use 50 psi check about ever 3 months add air maybe every 6 mo. Use a thorn tube and use a tire seal inside tube also. Good ride and energy saving PSI.

Ride them too hard if you are easy cornering on them, because a harder tire has poor grip. Ride them low if you need traction and don’t care about short tire life. There is a sweet spot, the ideal pressure for your riding weight, rim width, and tire construction.

Recent thought has moved away from the old mantra "Higher tire pressure is faster." Tire tech has evolved, and running lower pressure w/ a more supple tire casing may reduce incremental traction losses, allowing for more distance covered for the same effort. IOW, a lower pressure may allow the tire to increase its contact to put more power to the ground over time (not bouncing up in the air so much).

Here is an interesting well-written article that explains:

Me? On my new-to-me 29er hardtail with new-to-me Schwalbe 29x2.35 Big Apples, I'm still experimenting, currently at around 50psi, might try reducing to 40-ish to see if I like that better.

Has anyone thought about tire pressure monitoring systems for their bikes? I have a fat bike and was thinking it might be nice to have that information on your dash. I run around 16-18 lbs on the road and 6- rear and 10- front in the woods. It would be nice to see your tire pressure on your dash at a glance and have alarm when it drops. I guess the thought of not having to get down and check them “ all the time “ is appealing. I know, I’m getting lazy in my old age!
Your thoughts or suggestions.....

Not much on the topic by thread title, but may be more in random posts not listed below:

I feel my tires, every corner, every acceleration, every braking. I know when they are 2 PSI low. I feel when the surface condition or temp would like them softer. No need for monitoring, like one doesn’t need a temp monitor on a horse.

I changed it for ya.

I wouldn't put 65 lbs of air in a tire that's mounted on a non suspension bike. Not only will the ride be ultra harsh, I think it's dangerous because even a small road irregularity will make the bike twitch. My bikes run with low pressure. It's safer, and smooths out the ride. Sure, maybe it causes more drag and you get a little less range, but that's what the motor is for.

These are not Formula One cars. Having a readout of the tire pressure as you ride seems way, way unnecessary. Just give 'em a squeeze before going out for a ride.
