Hi, new member

I’ve built a 2010 orange 5 with a tsdz8 out of second hand bits. Done 500 miles cross country but started doing some more hardcore downhill and the 26” wheels are really starting to hold me back, rolling over stuff on the technical sections

So my question is what modern 29er downhill bikes have a 68-73mm bottom bracket that my motor will easily fit ?

I have a Whyte s150 on loans from my mate at minute I was thinking of buying it, but the suspension pivot is too close to the bottom bracket for clearance on the motor

The only one I can think of is a modern orange 5/6 with 29” wheels as the pivot is about 60mm from the bb

I’ll consider anything if anyone knows of any modern DH that will work with the tsdz8

Not a DH frame but what would your thoughts be on the Boardman MTR 8.6 which doe's take a TSDZ2(B) along with a under slung battery, it takes taper forks, the photo shows mine as mullet 29"f / 27.5"r but have switched a 29"r in at the moment as the 27.5" rear hub has broken up. Do not know how different size wise the TSDZ8 is, thinking of buying one myself or you can do what I have done go mullet, the second photo is my 26" Boardman, 27.5"f / 26"r combo with Lutu 27.5" air forks, changed the head angle slightly but great ride, otherwise I would have fitted an offset bush(s) in the rear shock if needed. Finally yes, I have done a mullet 29"f / 27.5"r with a 27.5" frame, again fine ride as the frames are all NOS and could take a slight slacking of the head-stock angle.

You will have to be careful with Giant frames, it's a bit hit and miss I have used Anthem frames but came unstuck with a Trance frame and had to fit a rear hub drive to it due to the framing around the BB. Also myself I avoid carbon fibre frames as I use M5 thread inserts for battery mounting.

The Boardman MTR 8.6 I have is fitted with a 48V 7ah which has gives me 30 mile max range on the flat with some hills which suit me fine as it gives me a light weight bike, I do have a long range Boardman Team FS 27.5" fitted with a 14ah battery running on 26" wheels with Trail King 26" x 2.4" tryes.

have you considered a hard tail? if I wasn't abroad I'd go buy this, stupid cheap, it's got a 66 degree head angle , virtually the same as the Whyte......and run it with as light a battery as poss....
i'm no expert but I know guys say a modern 29er with a slack head angle has moved the game on for going downhill on a hardtail...

The bikes are a scratch build from the ground upwards using a NOS frames mostly with a TSDZ2(B) mid drive, I have been using the small water bottle batteries either a 48V 7ah or a 36V 10ah brought thro Aliexpress, I seem to have a problem ordering now from there, so may when I need another contact the supplier by messaging them. But PSWPower are doing this. There are others on Aliexpress depends on what you want, there are ones that fit into a bottle mount. I have not got the patience to build a battery unless I really had to. Forgot to say the $140 included delivery to me.
