Turnigy HXT Powered Custom Cruiser Worklog

I used to sneak out for midnight trail rides in the bush while my wife and baby were asleep. There's no way I could do that with an ICE bike of any description. Or one of Kim's toy motors for that matter :p

BTW, Chain reaction cycles has a sale on at the moment I thought you may be interested in

^^They would match the my little pony stickers on your frock motor much better than
the blue on my bike HiGHSiDE :D nice of you to think of me though, I thought
you might be interested in these though-->

bahahahaha pink tyres ftw......should talk Matt into doin a big burnout with a pink tyre on so it'll have that big ol coloured cloud of smoke....

thatll lure the bogans........

hey Kim,

do you have a contact for items like headstem tubes, and rear drop out plates....(for the basis of making a frame). I realise choppersus has the headstem tubes.....but maybe someone australian? or maybe even a technical drawing of the bolt spacing of the disc caliper, and ill get the cut on the laser.

Yup my contact is a 5in Makita Angle grinder and the nearest piece of flat plate i have  Soz mate all my stuff is drawn and cut by me head stems and bottom brackets all sourced from curbside bikes.

Training wheels eh ? Glass houses my friend :p

Rodger, check out this mob

They're a pommy company but will happily ship here. If you're not in a hurry and want to keep the cost down they'll ship on the slow boat (they've been shipping stuff here on the slow boat for over 200 years  )
You could make some sweet torque plates with a laser cutter. I had to make mine in the same fashion as kim with an angle grinder but even if you just cut the flat sided axle holes in the middle of say a 4"x4" plate you could do the rest later with an angle grinder. Although I suppose with a laser cutter at your disposable, angle grinders are for peasants :) Mind you if you wanted to practise cutting those holes in small offcuts of plate I wouldn't mind one or 2 to play around with

Well somewhere along the lines you must have killed a chinaman, jelly legs

I'm just going to wear a cape in future so I atleast look the part when I'm flying through the air
I'm tempted to get a set of those pink tyres though, build up a nice ebike for the missus to come riding with me occasionally. Of course I'd bolt them onto my bike for a photo for you :p

For your "missus" riiiight

I'm sure you have a nice little cocktail dress that would go with the wheels mate?

FYI: only accident i've had thats caused injury have been as a result of mechanical failure not rider error and not on a bicycle.

The bike is again mobile but the joy is somewhat tainted with
sadness as a loved piece of Recumpence CnC Pr0n was
sacrificed to make it happen, I am sorry Matt... :-(

Sprocket_Adapter.jpg

Those that followed my trike build might recall I found
an old electric scooter curb side collecting? Well it had a sprocket
pretty much exact size of the reduction drive pulley, Matt.S had
already sent the reduction drive with a small sprocket on the output i think Matt?
the sprocket has a 15mm I.D the Turnigy motor shaft is 12mm...i have used a .05mm
piece of aluminium as a shim, you can see the turned over end
in the final pic of the series (Pic. 11) The alignment worked out very well
I have a lil video clip of it my internet is capped atm so ill edit this
post a lil laters when i finished opening up the webpages so i can upload
the video grrrr...

EDIT:- Fiiiinally 6k connection speeds for 6 days im in interwebz hell
anyhoot quick video shoeing the alignment of my diy sprocket adapter-->

The bike is few kilometres an hour slower i believe once the 54 tooth sprocket is added
to the final stage this will be increased, there is now no slipping whatsoever
of the belt it is incredibly quick off the mark now with no need to easy power on or
need to back off when belt slip happens... I shall swap these
sprockets out when i receive the L337 CnC versions from Matt.S
early next week i would guess if the freight companies are kind to me haha...

Matt.P is possibly coming up for a visit this arvo haha, i rang Matt
immediately after i got home from first test ride and asked if he was busy,
told him he best get up if possible so he can have a ride before i break it again
 I'll take some footage of Matt riding it if he makes it...

Till then...

Sad indeed you butcher. It's a bit hard to tell from the video, but is it much louder than the belt ?
Could you enclose it a little with a partial fibreglass shell or something to keep the noise down?

I guess once Matt sends the new CNC bits you won't want to hide it though ?

HAHA...actually, I have already PMed Mr Recumpence SiR
asking price of the cnc Pr0N covers for the reduction
drives, i think my hearing has been somewhat
frockisised from the all belt setup. :!:  .. -->

Quick clip with the new chain drive also added
a 3mm aluminium washer to prevent the widdle
sprocket on the end of the toy motor shaft from coming off :p

end_washer.jpg

Need me back some top end but least we have the belt
slippage knocked on the head...Matt. S parcel will
solve the top end speed

No more belt slippies + Colussus = Wheelie time soon!

That's awesome!

Thanks for posting the vids.

I well up a little every time I see you ride that thing.
You wanted one, you built one....a very beautiful one....with minimal tools. It's extremely inspiring.

It doesn't sound bad, but it looks bad. :x
There are not enough holes in the big sprocket
In the first test video I saw the rear tire wobbling. Isn't it uncomfortable?
The stabilizer function is working very well it seems.

I'd like to see a full speed pass by in the next vid to enjoy the sound of the doppler effect .

Hey Kim, nice job as usual. I wish I had half your "hacking" skills.

You know, even with the #25 chain drive on the 1st stage, overall this is quieter by half, from what I expected. Most of what you hear is from the motor whine, which sounds like a turbine. My 3220-equipped folding bike, on the other hand, sounds like a vintage sewing machine with bad bearings. I'm guessing the difference is your belt drive to the rear, which apparently is very quiet. I still have the giant #35 sprocket, driven straight from the motor.

Also, I wouldn't worry about the top-end, as that will be taken care of if and when you go to 18s.

thinkz haha...cheerz mate has been fun build :)

hehehe i thought ol 'HiGHSiDE' would have been onto that hahaha, as
it is only a temporary solution until the package arrives from Matt
I didn't want to waste too much time on beuatifying it, wont be on
therelonger than a week buddy, the rear wheel bounce is due to the
big 20x4.25in thing, it isn't at all noticeable when riding, the stabilisers
indeed work well, very used to them now to. Cheers mate :)

And i SiR wish i had a 1/10th of your electronic knowledge

speaking of which you will have funds in your PayPal soon as i finish this post buddy...thanking you kindly :)

hehee yes ... i figured that  wish HC would get their freaking act together and get the new stock of motors too.

I am already used to the increased noise and yes your right Gary the motor does drown out the chain chatter, the #25s are nowhere near as noisy as bicycle chain that's for sure HOWEVER i have
received word back from Mr Recumpence SiR he has some CnC covers for the reduction
drives so i shall be acquiring one for this in the very very near future, more CnC Pr0n wootz

Cheers all

Next step , build a chest cam mount !!! :D

yes, i want to get one of those cheapo video cams off Hobby City
to mount on the bike actually.

Hal- Yes they do mate :) give me just enough support to stay upright and get onto the bike
without it toppling over :)

Cheers..

How about a spike-cam for that silly helmet??

 I only wear that helmet when filming i have a Bell bicycle helmet
for regular riding. The spiked hat would prolly do more harm than good in the
event i tapped my head on the road, its pretty thin hard plastic prolly
lobotomise me on impact  YIPPEE says HiGHSiDE Hyena hehee
