So I first had SVMC72150, it lasted 9000 miles until I rode it in the snow, snow got inside the display connector, shorted it and killed it, completely understandable. I then got another SVMC72150 and used it for about 1200 miles until I decided to upgrade to SVMC72200. After about 4 miles after swapping it out to 72200 I stopped when suddely I heard shorting/sparking going on inside the controller box followed by billowing smoke, while it was sparking and billowing smoke, the motor was spazzing out forwards and backwards about half an inch, similar how if you short phase wires and then try to twist the throttle.
I was able to return it and get a replacement for free and the same thing happened about 4 miles later, sparking, billowing smoke and motor spazzing out. This happened about 2 years ago and after that I upgraded to FarDriver and had no issues since, recently I found this SVMC72200 stashed away in my junk box, decided to take it apart and find out what happened since I used the 72150 for thousands of miles without issues. The only thing that I can think of is, the 72150 was mounted to a acrylic controller box that I made that was attached to the EEB frame, the casing was completely isolated from the frame, when I got the 72200, it was about an inch of two longer and didn't fit in my controller box so I mounted directly to the frame causing the casing to be grounded to the frame.
Few weeks later when I took the motor off for tire change I noticed that my phase wires isolation were rubbing against the disc rotor and were making contact with the frame. I wonder if phase wires shorting out to the frame which was making contact with the controller casing caused this since that was the only change that I did between the 72150 and 72200, since the 72150 was isolated from the frame it didn't cause anything. I took pictures of the controller board, something caused the board to split in half by the capacitors, you can see a half inch crack going across the board, there was also a massive piece of molted solder that fell out of the controller aswell when I opened it. Im making this post just out of curiosity. This happened 2 years ago and I've been using FarDriver happily since.
