hi, just a quick question will it be ok to use regen with 10s lipo?
just because I like the extra braking force when regen is used, but im bit scared incase I damage the packs

I will only use it while braking, so it wont be used for long periods, sorry about being a noob

Even 20C lipo can take a 1-2C charge.
So measure the amps you get with regen, and see if it is within that spec.

If you're running 5AH for example.. 1C is 5 amps, 2C is 10 amps..

im using 5s 20c 5000ah turnigy packs in (10s 2p) i will give it a test run at the weekend thanks

If you can afford it, buy a cycle analyst. (unless you already have one) Best investment for a ebike i reckon

Yup.. or a turnigy watt meter if you're gonna run low voltages. That will work fine too, be quite a bit cheaper as well.

( i think you would have to turn it backwards to measure regen. Not sure.. )

Assuming this is a regular bike, I would think regen would be fine. No bms to cause problems, and plenty of charging c rate. I say go for it. The only caveat would be the usual one, if you live on a big hill, don't regen down the hill till you have used some power.

Yeah, it has to be hooked up backwards, or do what I did and use two inline with one backwards so I could read amp hours both ways.

i used regen on the way home from work today it seemed to be working great. the cycle analyst was reading about -8amps on average when using regen. so very happy with the result thanks

Is there any special battery setup needed to operate regen?

I have a 1200w Cyclone motor and a 12 FET 3077 MOSFET Extreme Modder Controller LYEN Edition, that has a regen wire on it. I have the wire disabled at the moment. My plan is to have a momentery push button on the handlebars to press when going down hill.
I bugger up my last 4 5s batts yesterday by running them to low :( . I'll need to get some kinda lvc off to make sure I dont do the same to my 2 new 6s batts. At the moment im running 2 6s batts in series to give me 48v.

This is the push button switch im planning to buy for my bars...

You cant run regen with a freewheel! Unless it is direct drive (ie. motor is spinning always when the wheels are) - it wont work.

Apologies, thought it was a standard cyclone setup.

In that case, you just need to enable regen in the controller programming and use a brake lever with a switch (or the switch you had displayed).

At least temporarily my regen will be hitting 7-8C with 20C lipo. I'm hoping the short duration of each 70-80A charge won't damage them. I say temporarily because this level of regen braking force is way too much for my taste, so I'll be doing a shunt mod as soon as I settle on a current limit.
