Using transfer case on EV

Just probing the grounds, has anybody thought of using 4x4 jeep transfer case on Electric car?
Basically 2 gears is all you need, with regular gearbox most conversions use 2. and 4. gear, which is 1:1
Basically most transfer boxes should do the trick. Only front diff output shaft would be in the way.
The other option I thought would be Volvo electrically switched overdrive, connected backwards.

Brilliant idea, I also had a 63 Falcon and a 64 truck that both had 3-speed manuals. As small and compact as a 3-speed could be I suppose, but the 2-speed would be a huge improvement.

The transfer cases I've played with (Jeep and Chevy pickups) have been heavy. Mizlplix at diyelectricar has been recommending powerglides for EV use. They are two speed, relatively light, and can be modified to take almost any power. He has a build thread at http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php/building-ev-powerglide-transmission-77105.html. He has a modification eliminating the bell housing and torque converter.
