Hi all, I'm quite new here. I was wondering if anyone has developed or considered designing a VESC-based logic board as a replacement for the Fardriver ND721800. In my case, the main logic board has suffered significant damage, including its gate drivers, which are integrated into the logic board itself. The board passes signals to the MOSFET board via four sets of 6-pin connectors, and fortunately, the MOSFET board appears to be fully functional. I'm curious if there are any projects or guidance on adapting a VESC to work with this setup effectively.

If the logic/mcu and the gate drivers were damaged, it's highly likely that the FETs are also damaged, if it was an electrical issue--most often the FEts failing are the *cause* of the gate failure whcih then blows the MCU from an internal issue; this usually happens from a shoot-thru event on the FETs, or a short from a motor cable or winding short between phases, (and cable shorts often *also* short hall signal or power to phases, and directly blow the MCU by putting battery level voltages on the hall signal/power lines).

If the FETs are actually ok, then you could use a VESC board to drive them. You'd need to disconnect the existing VESC's FETs, and probably build new gate drivers sufficient to drive the FETS on the FD, which would require looking up those FETS and seeing what charge they require for full turn on, what they require to fully turn off, how fast y ou have to do that to keep from getting shoot thrus, etc.

If you can fix the FD gate drivers and use those, it saves you the redesign work, and then you just have to figure out the timing the VESC has to use to drive the FD gates / fets to drive your motor (I would guess it's autotuning would do a lot of that part).

There is also the Lebowski brain board (several threads about those, including the code thread; it's OS too), that can be used to drive other controller's powerstages.

Can't help you with VESC, but if you have already opened the 721800, can you please post pictures from inside the controller.
