These actions seem more appropriate and effective than the more common knee-jerk calls for blanket banning ebikes:

I always found it interesting how parents are 100% set on keeping their kids away from motorcycles, but don't give a 2nd thought to allowing the kids to ride rental scooters without helmets, rental ebikes without helmets, and do certain other things which are arguably just as risky. I also get in that mindset, and have to remind myself there are risks to all of these things.

What do they do with guns they buy back? Not release them to the community except as scrap. I expect the same in this case. Most of the awful ebikes out there deserve it richly. They should toss in the teens when they crush the bikes though.
