No telling if he knows what he's talking about. But the video was getting 20 million views an hour in China. They're saying he was singled out because he was Asian. Of course.

So comes the speculating they drugged him. It's been a bad day for their PR and for their stock. The video has one good comment about the people making the official statements don't seem to be aware of how highly publicized this is.

Detectives are hunting two teenagers who set upon a cyclist and stabbed him in the skull with a piece of bike frame
Victim Chris Shields, 39, suffered a depressed fracture in the attack and had to undergo surgery.
The incident has left him traumatised and living in fear, and sparked shock and outrage among residents.
His mother Barbara Chamberlain has described the youths responsible as attacking “like a pack” of animals “going in for the kill”.
hey were male and estimated to be about 14-15 years old, she said, adding that there were about 10 involved.
Mr Shields, of Hallwood Park, Runcorn , was released from hospital on Monday and will have to return for follow-up appointments.

Mrs Chamberlain, 60, said the attack happened after the gang started ‘giving him verbals’ as her son visited Halton Lodge shops on his bike. There was a verbal exchange and Mr Shields threw his bike towards the boys, she said, then said that was enough and tried to leave.
However, he stumbled into bushes on Whitchurch Way and was punched and one of the attackers stabbed into his skull with a piece of frame that connected to the seat of his bike.
His mother said a girl managed to move him to safety and called 999 and also his brother, as he pointed the numbers to her, unable to speak or walk himself, leading to the brother arriving before the emergency services.
She believes a rapid response medic and ambulance arrived and took him to Fazakerley hospital.

Cheshire police said officers were called to Whitchurch Way in Halton Lodge at 8.27pm on Thursday, April 6.
A spokesman said two of the teenagers had become violent and assaulted the victim, hitting him in the head with a bicycle seat.
He said the first suspect was described as white boy, aged 14 to 16 years old, about 5ft 6ins tall, with short dark hair.
He was wearing a black waist length puffer jacket.
The second suspect was slim, in his teens, with thin blonde shoulder-length hair and a slim face.
He was wearing a grey hooded top.
There had been up to 12 teenagers present at the time. Detectives are investigating and a dispersal zone was in place over the weekend.

Mrs Chamberlain said: “A gang of youths started giving him a load of verbals one way or another. He gave a little bit back like ‘go away’ as you do, trying to get past them.
“They started coming at him. He was obviously intimidated.
“He said ‘come any further I might throw my bike at you in defence’ which he did in the end.
“Ten of them were about to jump him. He threw the bike, went to pick it up and said ‘go away’.
“He could see out of the corner of his eyes a lad on his bike removing the saddle from it.
“He ran away from it, tripped over into some bushes at which point they all followed him, jumped in, punched him in the head and he got stabbed in the head with the post that goes in the bike for the seat.”

Mr Shields said he enjoys riding his bike and it helped him deal with depression. He said he now feels “anxious and panicked.”
He said: “I can’t think straight.
“I can’t get the words to describe the way I’m feeling – anxious and panicked.
“I’ve come out of hospital and there are millions of things going through my head and it’s making me cry and upset.
“I don’t know whether I’m coming or going.
“I get very upset, angry and I’m very worried about myself.”
Inspector Clare Coleman, of Runcorn CID, said: “This was a particularly vicious attack which has left the victim with serious injuries.
“The victim has since been discharged from hospital, but understandably he is very shaken by what has happened.
“We are determined to do all that we can to trace the people responsible for this appalling act.”

NEW YORK — Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Thursday that the company would reveal plans for a semi-truck in September and show off a pickup truck in up to two years.

The plans could shake up the red-hot American market for highly profitable pickup trucks and introduce a new wrinkle into the shipping business, which many believe is poised for a total overhaul with the onslaught of self-driving capability.

Musk revealed the plans on Twitter, where he also said that the company would reveal the production version of its Model 3 mass-market electric car in July. That car is set to roll out later this year.

His remarks come three days after Tesla briefly surpassed General Motors as the most valuable American automaker, upping the ante for a company that must deliver the goods for salivating investors.

"Team has done an amazing job" on the Tesla Semi, he said, without revealing details. "Seriously next level."

In 2016, Musk wrote that the company would "deliver a substantial reduction in the cost of cargo transport, while increasing safety and making it really fun to operate."

Although the plans are buzzworthy, delivering a semi-truck to the market will take quite a feat. Tesla is currently not equipped to manufacture them. The company also has not capacity to make pickup trucks right now.

In fact, analysts have questioned whether the Model 3 would hit on Musk's aggressive timeline. But the company's stock has built momentum amid signs that the Model 3 is on track.

A Tesla spokeswoman declined to provide any more details on the company's plans for the semi or pickup truck.

Arkansas signs e-bike bill into law; Arizona is next
Published April 13, 2017
by BRAIN Staff
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (BRAIN) — The state of Arkansas has signed into law a new electric bicycle bill, HB 2185, making it the fifth state in the U.S., after California, Utah, Tennessee and Colorado, to pass e-bike legislation modeled after a pioneering California measure to create three classes of e-bikes. A similar measure is expected to pass the Arizona Legislature soon.
The bill, signed by Gov. Asa Hutchinson, carries the same provisions that are in the other bills: defining the three classes of low-speed electric bicycles, labeling all bikes, and a local "opt-out" provision to regulate e-bikes as is appropriate locally.
The bill ran generally unopposed through the Arkansas legislature, with only two nays out of the House and full support from the Senate, said Morgan Lommele, e-bike campaigns manager for the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association and PeopleForBikes Coalition.
“This shows that these bills are logical steps to resolve confusing and onerous e-bike laws throughout the U.S., and promote friendly bicycling policies and sales environments for e-bikes,” she added.
The BPSA and PeopleForBikes are actively working on e-bike bills in Arizona, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Connecticut and New York for the 2017 legislative session. As many as 10 states could have e-bike legislation on the books by year’s end.
The industry has underwritten these legislative efforts, working with local advocates in key states, such as SRAM’s Randy Neufeld in Illinois and Trek in Wisconsin.
E-bike suppliers are promoting the classification system to standardize the regulation of e-bikes across the country, which in many states have an ambiguous legal status or are technically illegal.

MURRIETA, CA – A mountain bike rider who died over the weekend after falling off of his bicycle and hitting his head on a rock has been identified as a Murrieta resident. Dennis Fabozzi, 65, died on Saturday afternoon along a dirt trail in the area of Tenaja Road and Via Volcano, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.
Coroner's officials said Fabozzi was in the rear of a group of bike riders when he fell and suffered a blunt force neck injury, that ultimately resulted in his death. He was wearing a helmet.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Two young boys and two adults reported seeing the man fall from the Shivela Trail in the Santa Rosa Plateau Park District, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig. The victim was knocked unconscious during the fall.
Lassig said it appears that Fabozzi was headed downhill on the popular biking trail when he attempted to negotiate a turn on the dirt path and lost control.
"In doing so, the bicyclist appeared to veer to the right of the dirt trail causing him to lose control of his bicycle, which in turn ejected him from the bicycle," Lassig told Patch. "His head hit a stone to the right of the trail."
Nearby witnesses began CPR on the man until paramedics could arrive, but Fabozzi succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Lassig said.

http://gizmodo.com/bridgestones-airless-tires-will-soon-let-cyclists-aband-1794492775 :?
First revealed way back in 2011, Bridgestone’s airless tires use a series of rigid plastic resin spokes to help a wheel keep its shape as it rolls, instead of an inflatable inner tube that can puncture and leak. Military vehicles and ATVs have been some of the first vehicles to adopt the unorthodox design, but Bridgestone will soon be making a version of its airless tires for use on bicycles.

Airless bike tires aren’t a new idea, you can already get wheels made from a solid rubber composite if you’ll be riding on terrain where the risk of punctures and flats is high.
But Bridgestone’s approach, which replaces the inner tube and a portion of a bicycle wheel’s spokes with thermoplastic resin supports, is better engineered to absorb bumps and provide an overall smoother ride, without ever requiring the rider to have to adjust the air pressure in their tires. More importantly, it will never go flat, or leave a cyclist stranded on the side of the road.

If eventually adopted for cars, airless tires have the potential to improve fuel efficiency since they’ll never deflate or lose their shape over time, but also improve safety, given they also can’t dangerously explode. With bikes, however, it’s more of a convenience thing, since cyclists would no longer have to carry a pump, or wrangle a spare inner tube. Bridgestone is hoping to have its airless bike tires ready for consumers by 2019, just ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, although it remains to be seen if they’ll be approved for official cycling competition in time.

Three cyclists were taken to the hospital Thursday after a Mariposa man driving a Dodge Ram swiped them on Snelling Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Just before 6 p.m., nine cyclists were headed north on Snelling Road, north of La Paloma Road. The most of the group was riding on the shoulder of the road, though a few may have been in the northbound lane, said Officer Eric Zuniga, a CHP public information officer.
The Dodge Ram driver, 81-year-old Alvin Parkerson, also was headed north on Snelling Road behind the cycling group. Parkerson attempted to squeeze between the cyclists and southbound traffic to pass the cycling group on the two-lane road, authorities said.
Parkerson’s passenger side mirror struck four cyclists in the group, causing a “chain reaction” that led to each of the cyclists in the group crashing, the cyclists said.
“There were people and bikes flying everywhere,” said Charlotte Hart, one of the cyclists. “I vividly remember the mirror exploding. I looked back and saw everyone on the ground.”
Two cyclists were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced by ambulance. A third was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. The fourth injured cyclist refused treatment, Zuniga said.
Parkerson stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with officers. He likely will receive an unsafe passing violation, Zuniga said.
Hart, a teacher at Atwater High School, said a group of about 20 people get together once a week for the ride to Snelling. The group has seen rude drivers occasionally who will give cyclists the middle finger, but most rides are a good experience, she said.
Zuniga said in this instance, the cyclists had the right of way and were obeying all traffic laws. “Cyclists have the right of way and can occupy the lane,” he said.
Zuniga reminded motorists that summer is approaching, and more cyclists will be on the roadways. It’s important to remember the “three-feet” law, which says a car passing cyclists should not do so unless there’s more than three feet between the vehicle and bicycles.
“Slow down, and be patient,” Zuniga said.

David Smith promised a Westmoreland County judge that if he is allowed to leave jail, where he has spent about a year awaiting trial on traffic-obstruction charges, he won't ride his bicycle this time — at least on the highway.

Smith, 57, of Hempfield will appear before Common Pleas Court Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio on May 9 for a hearing asking to have his bail reinstated and modified to allow him to cycle on back roads and other locations.

Defense lawyer Larry Burns filed court documents Tuesday that claimed the judge's order prohibiting him from bike riding is not proper.

“Mr. Smith is a single individual who does not possess a current driver's license, lives by himself in a rural community, and his sole means of transportation and his method of exercise for a healthy lifestyle was riding his bicycle throughout the county on a daily basis,” Burns wrote.

Smith faces misdemeanor charges in eight cases dating to 2012 in which he is accused of endangering motorists by obstructing vehicle traffic while riding his bicycle. He has been jailed twice for violating the terms of his bail, the first time by Judge Rita Hathaway in 2015 after he was charged with additional offenses related to his bicycling.

He was released from jail after posting bail and agreed to refrain from riding his bicycle on any roadway. Bilik-DeFazio revoked his bail again in September and ordered Smith back to jail after he admitted during a hearing that he continued to ride his bicycle.

Smith's trials tentatively are scheduled to begin in June. He has spent about a year in jail while his cases moved through the courts.

Burns said the bike-riding prohibition is punitive and discriminatory and that the judge didn't have the authority to impose such a restriction. Smith's incarceration is handicapping his defense, his lawyer said.

“With a trial on all the above charges pending, it is necessary that the defendant, Mr. Smith, be able to freely participate with the preparation of his defense with his lawyer prior to trial,” Burns said.

"Endangering motorists", ha! It's truly amazing how eager car-driving scum are to assign responsibility to others for the harm cars and car drivers do. The cops and judge should have to spend the next ten years getting around solely by department store bicycle.

In most places, the right of a cyclist to use the road is well-established. I imagine a state cycling advocacy group could take this idiot judge and bully police department to school just by putting a real attorney on it.

20-year-old male struck by a vehicle while he was riding a bicycle in San Diego Country Estates Sunday morning was airlifted to Palomar Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials report.
California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident that occurred in the 15400 block of Barona Mesa Way near the intersection of Calistoga Place. Ramona Fire Department units responded to the 9:53 a.m. call to find the bicyclist lying on the roadway conscious and alert, Cal Fire Capt. Robert Ramirez reported. The man suffered multiple abrasions, said Ramirez.
The bike’s front tire had been sheared off, its frame bent, and the handle bar in pieces, Ramirez noted.
The vehicle, reported to be traveling 50 to 55 mph, left the scene. Witnesses told officers they followed the vehicle to a house where it drove into a garage and the garage door was closed.

Cars hit women and child in family feud over Facebook post

May 4th 2017 6:12PM

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VA (WTVR) -- Three women and a child were hurt when a family feud over a Facebook post turned chaotic outside a Lawrenceville apartment complex.

Video recorded at the scene Wednesday afternoon showed two cars ramming into people, other vehicles, and eventually the Pinecrest Apartments.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the Crestview Road apartment at about 4:50 p.m. after someone reported a violent encounter among relatives.

"Numerous calls were received also reporting two female drivers, one in a silver 2006 Mitsubishi sedan and the other driving a blue 2005 Honda sedan attempting to hit and chase numerous individuals in the parking lot and that a vehicle hit the apartment building," Brunswick Sheriff Brian Roberts said.

The deputies arrived and the found the vehicles on nearby Industrial Park Drive. The drivers, 32-year-old Shana Cleaton and 35-year-old Mortici Thomas, were arrested.

"Deputies proceeded into the apartment complex and observed multiple injured persons, a damaged vehicle, and extensive damage to the front of one of the apartment buildings," Roberts said.

One woman, identified as 27-year-old Tiffany Hicks, was flown to VCU Medical Center with severe injuries. A relative told CBS 6 Ms. Hicks had no feeling in her left leg.

"Two other individuals were taken to Community Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries," Roberts said "A child was treated on the scene."

Witnesses indicated the fight among relatives was over a Facebook post made about a relative.

Sheriff Roberts called watching the video "chilling."

"Well there's a child [who] looks like they're about to fall out, a book bag falls out, the child reaches for the book bag, somehow the child doesn't fall out but the book bag gets hung up under the car," he said.

Investigators have not yet released specific details about the nature of the post, nor the exact relationships between the feuding family members.

Cleaton was charged with felony destruction of property and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The charges reflected the fact there were children in the women's cars during the incident and in a parked car that was rammed.

Both women were booked at Meherrin River Regional Jail and additional charges are pending for both.

Most of us take the idea of “home” for granted.
We go to work each day and return to our apartment, condo or house at night without giving much thought to the privacy, security — and peace of mind — a home offers.
We turn on the shower and never consider what it would be like if we didn’t have running water. We pop something in the microwave and never contemplate the idea of not having food at arm’s reach.

I bring all of this up because I just got a good look at how some of the other half lives. And I’m not talking Beverly Hills.
Last weekend my friend and I rode the San Gabriel River Trail, a 38-mile bike path that starts at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains and ends at the Pacific Ocean in Seal Beach. I’ve ridden some of these trails before, but it had probably been two or three years ago.
This time was different.

After encountering everything from well groomed city parks to chickens running loose on the adjacent railroad tracks, we came upon some homeless encampments. When we were riding up to the first one I didn’t even know what it was. All I saw from a distance was a hodgepodge of things sticking up in every direction.
As we rode by, it became apparent that people were living there. And they had lots of stuff, including at least 12 bicycles, several large plastic storage containers, a yellow kayak (not that any water was flowing in the river), a shopping cart full of odds and ends, several camping chairs, piles of clothes, a table covered with tools and ... well, you get the idea.
And in the middle of all that chaos was a green and white tent. The entire scene was so unexpected — and yet so visually overwhelming — that I vowed to take a photo of it on our way back. And I did. But I have to confess, I felt kind of bad doing it.

The last thing I wanted to do was exploit the people who were living there. And I figured they probably wouldn’t relish the idea of me taking a photo of their “home,” either. But I did. And just as I was snapping the shot a women emerged from the tent.
“Hey, there’s a guy out here taking a photo of us,” she said, looking back inside the tent.
At that point, I felt like crawling into the woodwork if there would have been any of that around. But as it turned out, she wasn’t offended.

“You could at least wait until I get a chance to smile!” she said with a big grin on her face. So I obliged and took a couple more shots.

We saw several more make-shift camps along the trail that day. Some were huge and others were smaller, but they all had one thing in common — they were “home” to the people living there.

Now I don’t know what that lady’s situation is. I don’t know if she once held a good job and is simply down on her luck, or whether she is developmentally disabled and just likes living along the river trail. But I do know this: There are a lot more homeless encampments along the trail than there used to be.

So no matter what we hear about how our nation’s economy is improving, we have to remember that it doesn’t trickle down to everyone. I took those photos because I wanted to illustrate what that scene looked like.

On Friday, new figures from the Commerce Department revealed that U.S. employers added 211,000 jobs in April, more than double the previous month. Another report showed that traveler spending in California hit a record $126.3 billion in 2016, supporting 1.1 million jobs.
I doubt that many of the people in those homeless camps heard about those reports. But I hope that whatever “home” they choose to create is safe and secure.
That doesn’t seem like a lot to ask.

It may have been bound to happen, but one part of it didn't. Of course they wound up fighting on the first day, but I resisted all urges to ask the obvious question:

Let's see, a pole, around the seat, it telescopes. . . And you say you're having difficulties about what the design would be?
