What is an 'intelligent motor controller' ?

My new ebike 36v/15a controller says 'intelligent motor controller' as the name of the controller.

Can you please explain to me what an 'intelligent motor controller' is and why it's different than a normal controller?

The controller is a 36v/15a for 300w geared rear hub motor, 1 level PAS, 2 brake sensors, twist throttle, no display.

Thx.

It has a Central Processing Unit in it, like a brain. It reads sensors, like the throttle, PAS, speed, voltage and current. From those, it decides how much power to give the motor.

Thanks, that sounds terrific but the bike still feels like it just wants to go 25 mph period.
For example, start pedaling and it wants to go to the max speed, even when pedaling slow, so I constantly hit the brake to maintain speed.
The ebike has no display or any way to adjust the PAS (only 1 booster level).

I'm thinking of upgrading to a different type of controller (sine-wave 'torque type', or a 'torque simulating' type) that would give more power (amps) at lower speeds but not more speed, and one with 5 levels of PAS (LCD panel) to adjust the power level.

It's a shame I have to do this since I have the 'intelligent motor controller' don't you think?

you could probably just get a Cycle Analyst and a 3-position switch or external pot to set up your various PAS/power settings (do eliminate your max speed limiter you would need a new controller - or hack the one you have)

Controllers are like people. Some have more intelligence than others. The S06S with LCD will give you everything you want. Note that it's for motors with hall sensors. Sensorless motors need the S06P.
