What is the smallest available direct drive motor?

I would like to build a discrete, "stealth" bike for cruising around the neighborhood. I love my current bike, which has a Crystalyte HT3525 motor, and I like the fact that it is so quiet. Does anyone make a direct drive motor that is a little smaller? I don't need a motor nearly as robust as my HT3525, as it has a lot more torque and power than I need for the local roads and trails.

Your best bet for a more discreet looking dd motor may be the Aotema kits sold by, for example, hightekbikes.com. Crystalyte also has a new "G-Series" motor but it appears from the ebikes.ca simulator to be rather weak.

Oh yeah the old "400" series Crystalytes are also smaller in diameter.

Bump.

I have now a clyte HS3540. I use it on a ping 36V 15Ah with max current at 25A. Cruising at 35-38kph draws about 16A-18A last time i looked.
The HS3540 is rather big and draws a bit too much attention for my likes and i think i use only a fraction of the power it can deliver.

What smaller DD motor could i use that would give about the same speed?

Look for a used 400 series clyte. I assume you are looking for rear for more stealth. The aotema kits avaliable in the USA are front hub only.

In the 400 series, 407 would be the quick one, 406 too quick for 26" wheel for most folks. 408 the one you are most likely to find.

It won't perform the same as a big motor, but the 400 series motors will stil get you going fine.

san diego electric bikes is advertising a rear aoetoma electric hub motor for 425.00
