Which version of Magic Pie is this?

I've recently taken ownership of four Magic Pie motors (three rear and one front). I've tried researching, but I haven't been able to figure out which version they are. I assume they are not the newest (V5) as those appear to be all black. These have the "wavy" design machined into them.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with these. In researching, it seems that the MP is pretty average all around. Not the best but not the worst. They are all laced into 26" wheels and have never been used. I was thinking I could sell them and use the funds for a mid-drive on my MTB, but I can't imagine there is much of a market for these wheels. Does anyone have any insight into these motors that they'd be willing to share? A few years ago, I built a commuter bike with a MAC motor, and it is an awesome setup. I also have a cargo bike, but I don't think the MP would be a good motor for that. So, not really sure what to do with these. Can anyone identify which version these are? I figured that, if I knew which version, I could do a little more research and determine their value (if any.) Thanks!

Hi ions82,

Here is a good link for you from Golden Motor that may help lead you in the right direction... While you're there go to the home page where there is a chat room, and chat to the very helpful and informative owner...Gary Salo. He is a Pie expert. I'm a rookie Magic Pie 5 owner.

Differences between Pies...

Looks like a Magic Pie v2. I've owned a couple of them. They changed the spoke design for v2 since the v1 spoke angles were poor. They have pretty good low-end torque, especially when converted to use an external controller. If they still have the integrated controller, I would try and sell them as is for the most $$$. The v2 controller did have its issues (both of mine ended up dying). However, I had programmed one for a friend (limited the current to 20 amps instead of 25 amps) and he beats the crap of of it. It is still going strong since around 2010.

I just sold my front pie v2 (with a blown controller) to an ES member for 80 USD + shipping. That was the motor only, no rim.
