Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

I just took a drive up Miguelito Cyn to check out the 150 ft. blade they trucked in for one of the windmills that getting built a couple of miles away from my house. Pretty impressive. Got stuck waiting while 3 of the tower sections were being transported in.

That big white ball on the hillside in one of the pics is a missile radar tracking station.

Following their Green agenda, Sweden recently closed four nuclear reactors.
Now there’s problems with the lack of production from wind and solar power plants.
So Sweden has been forced to fire up an oil power plant that burns 140,000 litres of oil EVERY HOUR.

https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/blekinge/har-ar-foretaget-som-slapper-ut-mest-koldioxid-i-blekinge

And in the same breath....the takeaway from OPEC’s annual report on Tuesday, which projects $11.8 trillion in new oil investment will be needed through 2045 to meet demand growth and compensate for production declines at existing fields.

....OPEC estimates that global oil demand will increase 28% over the next two decades from pre-pandemic levels as low-income countries industrialize......
So,.. Even as the West pushes renewables and electric cars, oil and gas are forecast to make up roughly the same share of global energy in 2045 as they do today.....
Nigerians and Guatemalans won’t be driving Teslas.!

you may need a new measure.....most reports quote them at 220 ft each !
29 windmills, 450 ft tall, totaling 98 MW .nameplate ! ..on a 3000acre site.
So on average it should manage approx 30MW ,...about the same as one mobile Gas turbine generator....
......but slightly more conspicuous

The millionaires on the neighboring hilltops are mad as hell about them.
Yep. The favorite location to install wind turbines (and nuclear power plants, and natural gas plants, and solar plants) is always "somewhere other than where I live."

I doubt that, they usually go for the unbreakable vehicles. Nigeria has very rough roads, deep ruts, very formidable road system with 50 year old trucks and 20+ yr old cars because they are easy to work on and fix, with very little computers/sensors. Look at what Cuba has done with the embargo, reusing old parts, hard to find a welding rod in that country.

True dat. They will be driving used Leafs and complaining about them.

Found it on Googlemaps street view before they started developing the area for windfarms.
Used to look so much greener with trees and farms.
You can still see the big white ball on the hillside...

Will be interesting to see how it looks over time... It seems to be Googlemaps street view cars only drive through that area every 10 years it seems, I wonder if they prioritize where they do street view refreshes based on increased visits to an area/search interest?

On another subject here is a new 22minute mini-documentary video report on Tesla solar and why it hasn't been doing very well.
Why Tesla Solar Hasn’t Worked Out The Way Elon Musk Promised
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW7WIvSxB4Q

I saw this on ABC iView the other day, and ABC decided uploaded it to their YouTube channel in FAR better video-quality than their super blocky-grainy 480p iView service. I don't get why ABC just don't make a deal with YouTube to host it all since it all works 10 times better and in far sharper picture quality, and I can't see how the deal couldn't be for free. :pancake:
I guess it's all about holding onto power :bolt: :bigthumb: :bolt:

This report is basically another new report on solar scams in Australia, because of all the government subsidies/rebates etc it has caused all the scam-rats to rush in and trick people into oversized solar-roof installs, some report they got charged FAR more than the initial price, while others ended up with a system twice as big as they agreed to and were also locked-in to pay more.

On the plus side they didn't report on dud solar installs, where all the panels or inverter basically stop working after a mere few years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTIPNa2lFqk

On the plus side they didn't report on dud solar installs........
? ..why is that a “plus” ?
Much of the RT solar industry in Au is full of scamers.
That ABC investigation focussed on the finance , which is obviously the main purpose of these scams with money sharks offering the finance for the installation, but the bigger issue is the low life a55holes offering these RT solar systems on completely false promisses .But the ABC, being fully “Woke” will not expose the negative side of Solar or the especially harmfull RT solar.
Of course , the RT solar installers work hand in hand with the finance source in suggesting the savings from the Solar generation will quickly pay back the installation cost,..when in most cases it cannot.
Remember also, in Australia, the “installer” gets the government rebate ($3k) from each of these installations
I frequently receive phone call ,..and even door knocks,..from companies trying to sell me RT Solar. ( which is funny , as anyone driving past can see i already have a Solar install !)
I enjoy letting them make their sales pitch, noting their “estimations” and calculated returns, ..before tackleing them with a few key questions and facts. They always overstate the generation output, FIT returns, and lifespan. They all seem to assume there is no shade trees that may affect the performance, or consider removal of them to be simple and minimal cost !
Of course , they dont debate the facts, the “sales guy” will most often just back off and suggest a installation technician to call me back !
Typically they all propose a 6.6 kW system with a installed cost of approx $10k and a payback of less than 4 years !
Similar / better quality spec systems, Can be sourced from reputable suppliers for under $5k !
The most impressive attempt was for a similar system but with no “system or installation” cost to me, with the “ savings” from the FIT payments covering the $11k cost !
Sounds good ?.. but what that actually entailed was for me to sign up for a personal loan for the value of the installation, and a committment to pay back the loan payments using the FIT savings ! ...( based on their maximised return estimations , of course). Details of the loan interest rates and penalties were of course pretty appalling !
Needless to say, a few pointed questions from me, stopped that approach.
But obviously many householders do fall for these scammers, and most of them continue to convince themselves it is a good deal.

I see some tesla solar installations have been using traditional panels whats the deal with that this roof tile was a no brainer its was economic suicide lmao 🤣

Ive had enough if elon musk wank wank group, why suckle the nipple of your leader when the milk is sour i get we need new direction but this nobhead is an investment fraud on many levels.

Hydrogen can be stored on tape reels it was discovered in the 1980's and the good old U.S of A hole decided to stop the project and also ban the comoany access to patent technology or something simular to that pushing bwck development for over 30 year's.

That's meddling by a goverment for the oil companys that were handling patents documents that had not even been approved yet, but the reason given for a ban on its research is the technology in the wrong hands could power rockets same old its for your safety routine.

I get hydrogen is a tricky dicky task and its not easy to handle but its even more tricky when you competitor is trying to kill you at birth stopping all resources to help one flourish.

Humans run the economies like the wilds of Africa its dog eat dog and the most opportunistic and ruthless competitor wins, welcome to the world 🌎 of equal opportunities were goverments use inside information to manipulte stock markets and alike to fund the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

I thought someone was selling hydrogen kits for smaller cars years ago, must have been a scam.

New video from ColdFusion TV
How to Lie Your Way to $34 Billion [Nikola Motors Fraud]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88fWUZhYb04

^These videos are well made but I still take this guy with a grain of salt, when Tesla came out with their x3 bigger battery cells this Coldfusion guy reported them in the classic hyperbolic way as having 3 times more total energy then the 18650 etc but didnt say anything about the increase in size, it's all about omission for your entertainment.

I always viewed Nikola Motor Company like I see most big start ups these days, that being as long as they are willing to throw enough money at it then they will get there.
And having a schemer like Trevor Milton would only help them actually get there as a legit company.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs was famous for doing scheming lies as well to get into the market, when Steve Jobs/Wozniak first built the Apple 1 they couldn't actually get CPUs, Steve Jobs rang up Motorola and pretended to be a subsidiary of HP to get an order of CPUs to build their Apple 1 PC (or something like that).
Apple only made it because they were willing to lie and technically commit fraud.

If you watch some of the videos on their official "Nikola Motor Company" channel they all look pretty real to me hard to believe all these are fake and everyone is an actor, maybe they deleted their old fake ones which must of been over a year ago?
https://youtu.be/hQlFECfvhVw?t=253
https://youtu.be/3C3uQ10jo0k?t=183
https://youtu.be/dpQ0Cm5tBRU?t=89

The amazing thing is when you search on YouTube for the actual "Nikola Motors" channel you just get TONS of videos on how Nikola Motors is a complete fraud and how their trucks don't even run or power them selves at all...

To me as long as both sides are allowed to stay up then the "free market end user" can look at both sides and decide for them selves.
Most will probably just assume Nikola will never have a truck on the road, but one day might actually see one on the road and then have to reassess who they blindly trust.

For example the ColdFusion video while very nicely presented just seems to be a repackaging of this guys video from over 6 months ago which goes over the exact same topic/information https://youtu.be/1oqqnkkTKVM?t=613

On a another subject here is a happy story.
In the Philippines they are using recycled plastic to make wood like blanks for social housing of the poor.

That seems very labour intensive ?.....but i guess labour is cheap there.
I wonder why they dont use a sheet version for a waterproof roofing material ?
Timber substitute composite made from recycled plastic (+bamboo fibre) has been in use for many years here.
Very common for non structural areas like decks etc.
....but of course its more expensive than natural timber equivalents !

I wouldnt trust that it doesnt leach chemicals.
Decking is fine but indoors :?:
Its not like flame retardant foam on furniture is healthy either and thats f'ing legal.
This is why I dont like buying off Amazon, who knows where they got the product and whats used in it.
But people will buy baby toys and earrings from back alley mystery sellers on Amazon, dont even trust that Amazon themselves are selling it.
I read an article that there were a ton of recalls for products that Amazon was selling, never read up on it.

Was into the saving money with solar installs. Have given up on that and decided it was worth the expense. That was five years ago. Now a new drama is playing out. The city and state that I live in is now keeping up with the changing times. We have more and more people moving here connecting to the same old grid that is out dated. Every storm or event you see 10's of thousands of customers without power. Now it's not to save money it's just to have some power. 2-24hr is not uncommon any more. The worse was 2 days interment and 4 days with 0.

Not looking to power everything just basics. Keep food cold, radio, charge lights and phones. Maybe my car. Thought about using the cars traction battery. With a 4 day power outage then that would not be enough. Have natural gas to the house thought about natural gas supplied generator. The Natural Gas lines froze last year so that not dependable.

Was holding out hope for Hydrogen. Don't think that will be in my life time. Solar and a mixture of other solutions.

I'm in Texas.
They probably have rebates for them here.
Diesel is the worst but i'm sure your right. I can hear it now. Onan was the best 30yrs ago. Will give it a look. Diesel last longer than Gasoline but jells if to cold, would need a winter mix. Worked around a lot of Diesel engines for 17yrs.

Diesel generator is the only practical , reliable solution.....
.....but some idiot has probably banned then in your state !

Around 2020 I remember the news of Germany building a new coal power station, but it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to find news on it via Google specifically, but news articles on Germany's new coal power station would come up first thing on other search engines like Qwant in a constant stream of headlines like "new coal power station in Germany".

And it shouldn't of been hard for Google to bring it up because Reuters.com etc literally had a news article titled something like 'new coal powerstation in Germany'.

I screen-shotted the differences of the first page results differences because they were just remarkable in difference and no matter what search words I used on Google I simply couldn't get it to show an article about Germany's new coal power-station, I tried so hard for weeks/months back then.
Looking back I wonder if Google was tweaking everything and anything including search results on coal to help Biden win the 2020 election against Trump? Also note I did didn't matter if I Googled via private "incognito mode" etc the results were always the same.

Google Germany no new coal power stations.jpg

Qwant.com search engine results were completely different.
Qwant Germany lots of new coal power station articles.jpg

But now things have changed again which has been around 18months now, to might delight I can finally Google search new coal power-station in Germany and actually see articles about new/recently activated coal power stations in Germany it instead of seeing baloney 2019 result article saying "no new coal powerstations in Germany" etc, it was just creepy.

2021-11-01 (4).png

Now when I search on Qwant I think it has probably a few more properly matching new articles on the topic then before, so their engine is working better in matching results then ever before.
https://www.qwant.com/?q=new+coal+power+station+germany&client=brz-brave&t=web
For example 3rd new article for me on the subject from a Qwant search lists this article...
https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/germany-must-build-new-gas-power-stations-guarantee-energy-security-scholz-2021-10-27/

Just goes to show that all those who gain power abuse the hell out of it and are terrified of losing it

The Google search algorithms are purposely misguiding you with altered search results.
This has been a known factor for some time.
Luckily you know about this and go to other search engines.

China's building coal power stations as well. Yet we're going to spend millions to cut coal and up hippie talk.

It doesnt matter what Google, Failbook, etc does with their algorithms.....
It is impossible for a civilised society to survive without F Fuels , including coal, unless Nuclear ...(or some equivalent energy dense source)...is proliferated rapidly throughout the world.
To think otherwise is ignoring the facts.

nobody tells that we can survive without F Fuels.
for now
what most people, more and more people want to ACCELERATE transition.
governments - put your money where mouth is
instead of subsidy for fossil industries designate some of this money for labs which develop solar panels to increase solar panel efficiency.
20% efficiency is already progress.

It's about money and cheap fuel. Grew up hearing about how we were going to run out of Oil in 20yrs. forgot to ask which 20yrs? They kept moving the year we were going to run out. That was 50yrs ago. We can survive with out fossil fuels, just most will not afford all they want to use. The cost of most everything will go up. It's all going up anyway, is it not?

Things would be cheaper if the waste was cut. Like electric heating down here in the south, total insanity. 6-8k lb automobiles to go get a beer. So if they have so much money to burn then I'm for higher rates. I know we are not ready to move on but they will put it off forever if they can. The biggest problem with Coal is the good stuff have be used and now they are mining crap. The big easy reserves of Oil and Nat gas had been drawn down. Lots of small producers that the big oil does not want to mess with. Here in the USA we have thousands of abandoned Wells (Oil and Gas) that are just venting. We will not move totally away from fossil fuels but it time to start moving.

Was in the boat of I will do it if I can save money. Now i'm in the group of no matter what it cost. Know that the best way is to cut down on the waste.

People just do not realize and today, the summit over in hippie summit in Glasgow England, China and Russia did not attend and will continue to pollute along with India and Pakistan while we pay dearly.
