On the plus side they didn't report on dud solar installs........
? ..why is that a “plus” ?
Much of the RT solar industry in Au is full of scamers.
That ABC investigation focussed on the finance , which is obviously the main purpose of these scams with money sharks offering the finance for the installation, but the bigger issue is the low life a55holes offering these RT solar systems on completely false promisses .But the ABC, being fully “Woke” will not expose the negative side of Solar or the especially harmfull RT solar.
Of course , the RT solar installers work hand in hand with the finance source in suggesting the savings from the Solar generation will quickly pay back the installation cost,..when in most cases it cannot.
Remember also, in Australia, the “installer” gets the government rebate ($3k) from each of these installations
I frequently receive phone call ,..and even door knocks,..from companies trying to sell me RT Solar. ( which is funny , as anyone driving past can see i already have a Solar install !)
I enjoy letting them make their sales pitch, noting their “estimations” and calculated returns, ..before tackleing them with a few key questions and facts. They always overstate the generation output, FIT returns, and lifespan. They all seem to assume there is no shade trees that may affect the performance, or consider removal of them to be simple and minimal cost !
Of course , they dont debate the facts, the “sales guy” will most often just back off and suggest a installation technician to call me back !
Typically they all propose a 6.6 kW system with a installed cost of approx $10k and a payback of less than 4 years !
Similar / better quality spec systems, Can be sourced from reputable suppliers for under $5k !
The most impressive attempt was for a similar system but with no “system or installation” cost to me, with the “ savings” from the FIT payments covering the $11k cost !
Sounds good ?.. but what that actually entailed was for me to sign up for a personal loan for the value of the installation, and a committment to pay back the loan payments using the FIT savings ! ...( based on their maximised return estimations , of course). Details of the loan interest rates and penalties were of course pretty appalling !
Needless to say, a few pointed questions from me, stopped that approach.
But obviously many householders do fall for these scammers, and most of them continue to convince themselves it is a good deal.
