Any make one yet??
I would really like to get my hands on a quality wireless throttle. I am putting together a push trailer and would like to make the trailer completly independant of the bike (no wire's on the bike).

I don't know I've heard of a wireless throttle, but the RC controller use a servo tester to function as the throttle signal that normally would be wireless to the plane...

I use a wireless throttle (linear speed control + braking) like this
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=10608
and it works fine.

Maybe it's just me, but a wireless throttle seems like one of the worst ebike ideas I've seen. You really want to trust control of your vehicle to a radio? Haven't you ever had a cell phone call or other wireless connection get dropped?

The distance between the transmitter and the receiver is small, so I have never lost the signal.
But in such situation, the motor automatically stops.

John, people have thought of these situations before and like Christian said, when that case occurs it basically reverts back to zero throttle. It also does this (at least on most models of RC equipment) when it receives more than one signal (if someone else is ever using the same channel)

You guys can have at it if you want. It's just another complex system to fail. I'll stick with hardwired and ole reliable KISS. If a throttle wire bothered me, then I'd make the bike pedal assist, or hide the wire in the handlebars and frame. There are better ways to skin that cat.

I believe OP asked because he wanted an assisting trailer (I'm assuming so he can ride the bike regularly when he doesn't need electric)

Didn't someone try that and the added distance was too great for reliable wireless? Tractor trailer rigs have wires, not wireless. A bit longer wire is a non-issue AFAIC.

If the thing is <1KW, you probably could get away with it without much worry. However, on higher power builds, the wired throttle can be a point of failure as is.

I understand the stuff is SUPPOSED to not failsafe into WOT, but its a hell of a lot more possible for issues with a wireless link over a physical wire. I don't see any real advantage.

Questioning the reason for wireless does not help find one.
I for one think a fail safe wireless throttle would be more reliable than unplugging and replugging a connector 100's of time. If I wanted the KISS method I would pedal. This is for a push trailer that gets unhooked when I dont want to transport heavy items.

Dan, I know this isn't the purpose of your thread, but I have always used those regular flat 4 plugs that are made for utility trailers and boat trailers. They withstand many years of plugging and unplugging, plus are very weather resistant. Have never given my any trouble for the throttle connection between the bike and pusher trailer. If you put the wires in the 1/4" black wire loom from an auto parts store it's hardly noticeable on the bike.

Just thoughts in case you can't find the wireless throttle set up you are looking for.

Thanks for the tips.
I ended up ordering 2 of these.

I actually need 12 wires. 6 for CA 3 for throttle and 3 for a 3 speed

theres a few electric skateboard build on youtube where people use wireless playstation controllers to transmit signal to the controllers. im just not sure if you can do it with variable speed.

the 2.4ghz stuff is pretty damn good, never had a lock out on my rc helis
Would be dead simple to set something like this up using rc transmitter and receivers
and they are sooooo cheap at HK its ridiculous, i bought a couple of extra receivers few weeks ago
for my choppers a 9ch 2.4ghz receiver for ~$US8 Link this with a servo tester/throttle
use a HVBEC to run it all off your main pack and it would be maintenance free...

Come back to life thread!

I would like to have a wireless throttle set up for a custom project I am working on. I am converting a dirt surfer (http://www.neoscooters.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Dirtsurfer_GP) to electric. I just got the Dirtsurfer in a few weeks ago from ebay and I have proven to myself that I can ride it sufficiently to warrant the investment of motors and batteries. I plan on installing a 2805 Nine Continents motor and a 52volt LiFePo4 pack, I think a 40amp controller, not sure on that yet. The wheels are 20in.

I would like to have a wireless hand throttle set up that I can easily carry with me. I'm worried that with a wired set up it will take too much damage if I fall (when I fall) and it will risk pulling wires out or getting twisted around the wheel etc. With a hand throttle I can bail with the throttle in hand (Or wrist).

Has anyone successfully built a wireless system for their bike? It would need to be able to use an e brake. Thoughts, ideas, guidance?

Thanks!

I have not seen any wireless throttles that go on handle bars yet.
