I found a used 1 1/2 yo Ezip for sale for $250. 450w with 2 12v sla's that the owner says will do 15mph. Its basically unridden...less than 50 miles in 2 years. Worth getting and upgrading th ba tteries?

The eZip is noisy and whiny at speed. The price of $250 was roughly what they sold for when new. You can probably talk them down if you are so inclined since the batteries are probably dead.

That would be a Currie motor. Its going to sound like a spoon in a blender when running. But IMHO, those bikes are the best bang for the buck of any premade ebike. They work reliably well, with the only weak side being the battery. I would count on the batteries being shot.

$250 is high. they sold localy for around $399 back in 2008-9.

Its a good used bike for 100. IIRC towards the end of the run what they were asking was $230 new. Even if the batteries run the bike well for a test ride don't assume they will last more than a couple miles per charge!!

In looking at this at all I assumed that the batteries were DOA and would be replaced because I'd want something lighter anyway. I was mostly wondering if anything else was worth the cost and it seems that the answer is "likely not".

Worth $100. But not a penny more. Better off to buy a new one with lithium in some ways.

Highest price you should pay is $150.

Even if those SLAs have no cycles on them, they get saggy after a year or two.

Components on the bike are pretty mediocre and heavy. The motor itself doesn't have much potential either, and the controller is locked out of higher voltages if it's an 08+ which it sounds like it is.

I had one for a moment and it wasn't too bad, ended up getting rid of it because i wanted more power and the hill climbing ability was kinda blahse.
