Yamaha PAS motor

Hello guys! Im new in this forum,I hope somebody would help me in figuring out the battery connection of my Yamaha Pas which was handed to me by a friend that was removed from his bike.
On the picture from the motor,RED and BLUE wire connected to a BLACK and RED wire which then connected onto the base of original battery with 4 holes,,,,then my question is those 2 little wire from motor which is connected into 2 pins on the battery side is what for? Since I dont have the battery I have no Idea how to power up this motor.Please if somebody who knows this enlighten me....Thanks in advance....

Most likely you'll need a controller, too. It's possible there's already one built in, but I don't know that unit. I would guess that the smaller wire/connector from the unit is the PAS sensor, and the large two pin is the motor connector. The connector with many wires could be sensors to a display, or to the controller.

If there's no inbuilt controller, then whatever battery you use will go to the controller's power connector, and most likley it's a brushed motor with two wires (blue/red). If you measure across those two wires in each direction and read essentially a dead short with an ohmmeter both ways, then there's probably no controller in htere and it's just a brushed motor, and you'll need a controller for it.


You might want to ask your friend about what else connected to it, and how, as that is your most certain way to get the right connection info, and a list of what things you'll need to run it properly without damaging it.

AFAIK the controller and torque sensor are contained in the motor, and I think a throttle is not possible. You could try asking on the UK Forum. There's a guy there that knows something about these.

There is no external controller for the motor,it is built-in inside..I have the power-on switch,low,mid ,high...
I have borrowed picture from other forum to show it clearly...Although diff. brand but almost identical to my motor

Two small wires could be a brake cutoff circuit. See if it runs with it disconnected, and stops when you short the two wires.

Looks very similar to the Panasonic Pedelec system. IIRC those small wires have to do with battery temperature using auto-reset thermal switch inside the battery pack. At least the old NiMh packs were outfitted this way.

Your problem is gonna be the handlebar soft-switch box appears to be missing which turns the internal controller on and selects modes of assistance. It's a fairly simple circuit but I never figured out how to power ON without it and eventually sold the bike.

EDIT - Duh, I just read your post which mentioned you have the handlebar soft-switch box.

Probably youre right! I have ordered already the original battery from Yamaha dealer and waiting for arrival..I will put this motor on my modded MTB ,with front hub motor

For sure you need battery to connect and use the bike as eBike.
Are you thinking to sell the motor?
I need one irking condition.
